Brandon Smith Snares Victory in COMP Cams Midsouth Dirt Track Championship

West Memphis, Arkansas (09/28/13) – The COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) concluded their 2013 season on Saturday evening with a trip to Riverside International Speedway (West Memphis, Arkansas) for the 7th Annual COMP Cams Midsouth Dirt Track Championship, and it was who Brandon Smith, who put a bookend on the season with the $2,000 win!

2011 CCSDS Champion, Brandon Smith from Floral, Arkansas, overcame a battle with Ashley Newman, a heavy track, and lapped traffic to claim his second series' victory of the 2013 season on Saturday at the historic, 1/4 mile oval.

Via preliminary action Smith earned the pole position for the feature with Ashley Newman joining him on the front row for the 35 lap finale. As the caution-plagued race went green it was Newman, who jumped to the lead with Smith in pursuit. A series of cautions struck the event during the race's early stages, while Newman maintained the lead.

The Ripley, Tennessee driver kept his Upton Motorsports #73 at the front of the pack until lap 22, when Smith took advantage of lapped traffic to shoot to the lead. Once out front Smith survived a rash of late-race cautions to score the victory with Newman, Clay Fisher, Tommy Surrett, and Joseph Long rounding out the top five finishers.

Brandon Smith began heat race action with a win in GRT Race Cars Heat Race #1 with Brandon Smith winning the NEA Super Gas Heat Race #2, and Kyle Beard registering the victory in Allen Manufacturing Heat Race #3.

The Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger bonus was claimed by Tommy Surrett, while Chandler Petty was awarded the Quarter Master Hard Luck Award after battling mechanical issues throughout the night.

Kyle Beard from Trumann, Arkansas was honored as the 2013 CCSDS Champion, while his teammate, Ashley Newman from Ripley, Mississippi, was officially presented with the Kuntz & Co. Rookie of the Year crown.
