Bub McCool Tames the Gumbo in Greenville CCSDS Action

Greenville, Mississippi (07/04/14) – The COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) presented by Lucas Oil opened a doubleheader weekend at Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi), and Bub McCool overcame an early race battle with Tommy Surrett to score the win, which marked the first of his career with the series.

McCool earned the New Vision Graphics Pole Award after winning his heat race and was joined by Tommy Surrett on the front row for the 30 lap, $1,500-to-win event. McCool grabbed the initial lead as the race went green, but exiting turn four on lap 1 it was Surrett, who blasted to the lead. McCool, Duke Palasini, Kyle Beard, and Clay Fisher completed the top five with a single circuit on the board.

A caution flew as the field completed lap 1, which allowed the field to catch their breath before going green once again. With the green flag displayed once again Surrett held the top spot as the leaders caught lapped traffic by lap 6. On lap 7 in heavy traffic McCool took the lead, but just one lap later Surrett jumped back to the top spot. Surrett’s time at the front quickly came to an end, when McCool blasted the cushion to steal the lead on lap 9.

Once out front Bub raced away from his competitors to lap all but the top ten runners on his way to the victory. Surrett, Fisher, Palasini, and Beard rounded out the top five finishers.

“I thought that Surrett was going to run off and hide from us all early in the feature, but my car got better as the race progressed,” said McCool. “Tonight is probably the best I’ve seen the track here at Greenville in a long time. It was really a lot of fun.”

Bub McCool started the night by recording the quickest lap with a 14.108 second lap around the ¼ mile oval in Group A. Clay Fisher recorded the fastest time in Group B with a 14.612 second lap.

Bub McCool won GRT Race Cars Heat Race #1 with Duke Palasini winning Allen Manufacturing Heat Race #2. Tommy Surrett raced to victory in ROCKHARD Powder Coating Heat Race #3, while Kyle Beard won Woodco Inc. Heat Race #4.

The Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger Award went to for Cody Kierre for advancing from the 20th starting spot to an 8th place finish, while Timothy Culp was the recipient of the Keith Craft Racing Engines Hard Luck Award after a broken oil pump, while running second in his heat race ended his night and his weekend.

Due to several drivers with mechanical issues in their heat races, the b-main was scrapped for the evening.

The second round of the weekend’s doubleheader at Greenville Speedway will be held on Saturday night with a $2,000-to-win/$350-to-start event. Time trials, heat race action, b-mains, and the 30 lap finale will all be a part of the show. The race was originally scheduled to pay $300-to-start, but CCSDS CEO Chris Ellis announced at the driver’s meeting on Friday night that he and the track were increasing the start money to show appreciation to the drivers.

Saturday grandstand admission for adults is $20 with children (ages 6-14 years-of-age) $5 and kids (5-years-of-age and under) free. Adult pit admission is $35 on Saturday with children (ages 6-14 years-of-age) $10 and kids (5-years-of-age and under) free.

The grandstands open at 5pm with the pit gate swinging opening at 3pm. The driver's meeting is at 6:45pm with hot laps scheduled for 7:00pm with racing action to follow. For more information on Greenville Speedway please visit www.GreenvilleSpeedway.net .
