COMP Cams Super Dirt Series 2013 Banquet Recap

Beebe, Arkansas (02/15/14) – The COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) presented by Lucas Oil hosted their 2013 Night of Champions banquet on Saturday, February 15th, 2014 at the Holiday Inn at the Airport (Little Rock, Arkansas) as the tour drivers were recognized for their accomplishments.

Kyle Beard was recognized as the 2013 CCSDS Champion in his #86 Upton Motorsports/Bob Pierce/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model.  The title marked the first for the Trumann, Arkansas driver, and his car owners, Greg and Angie Upton, were recognized as well as his father, Gary Beard, who received the$250 Mark Martin Automotive Crew Chief of the Year Award.

In his acceptance speech Kyle Beard thanked his supporters for making his championship run possible.

“I can’t thank my family and the Uptons enough for their support and the great equipment they give me each night.”  Beard concluded by noting, “We have so many great sponsors on our cars and without their support it would be hard to contend for championships, so I really have to thank them as well.”

The balance of the top ten were recognized including Ashley Newman, Chandler Petty, Clay Fisher, Tommy Surrett, Lynn Beach, Brandon Smith, Jon Kirby, Joseph Long, and Jon Mitchell.

Upton Motorsports pilot, Ashley Newman from Ripley, Tennessee was presented with the Kuntz & Co. Rookie of the Year title and received $1,000 for his efforts.  Dr. Lynn Beach finished second ($500) and Joe Long finished ($100) in the competition.

Special awards on the night included Ross Camponovo receiving $250 for being recognized as the GRT Race Cars top heat race winner.   The New Vision Graphics Pole Award found three drivers tied for the honor as Kyle Beard, Billy Moyer Jr., and Brandon Smith all received accolades.  A more complicated six way tie was found in the COMP Cams Winner Circle competition with each of the drivers receiving a complimentary entry fee for the first stand-alone, weekend night of their choice.

Jon and Becca Kirby were recognized for their support of the series over the past several years as both a race team and a sponsor (Tobacco Town).  The husband and wife duo plans to step away from the sport in 2014 to focus on other interests.

CCSDS presented by Lucas Oil CEO, Chris Ellis, addressed the attendees with multiple announcements.  Ellis formally introduced Lucas Oil Products as the presenting sponsor of the tour moving forward.  He also announced that more money will be added to purses and that co-sanctions with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) will include series provisionals.

Ellis also welcomed new tracks to the 2014 campaign including Crowley’s Ridge Raceway (Paragould, AR), Poplar Bluff Speedway (Poplar Bluff, MO), and Outlaw Motor Speedway (Oktaha, OK).
It was announced that the tire rule for 2014 will include HTS Spec 1600, Lucas 1640/06, and LM 40.  WRS-55 tires will also still be allowed.  No economy 1600’s will be allowed.

Ellis also announced changes in the series point fund for 2014, which will pay by a per event rate. The champion is guaranteed $5,000. If the series races at least twenty nights the payout will be the same as 2013.  For example 2nd place will be $150 per event, so $150 x 20 events equals $3,000.  Full details will be available soon.

The CCSDS presented by Lucas Oil warriors will embark on their 2014 season on April 5th and 6th as the tour co-sanctions a pair of events for the first time ever with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS).  On Friday, April 5th Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana) will host a $10,000-to-win show, while Saturday April 6th will see the CCSDS presented by Lucas Oil being a part of an event for the first time ever at Outlaw Motor Speedway (Muskogee, Oklahoma) as another $10,000-to-win slate is held.  For more information on the 2014 docket for the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series presented by Lucas Oil please visit www.COMPDirt.com .
