Weather forecasts are never accurate, but the predicted weather for the upcoming Skyler Trull Memorial weekend at Carolina Speedway is expected to be warm, hot even, compared to the frigid temperatures and winter weather that highlighted the previous weekend in the Carolinas. With daytime temperatures forecasted to be in the mid 60s, the race night temps will cool down, but the action on the track will heat up quickly as the Carolina Clash Super Late Model series officially begins with the running of the 13th Annual Skyler Trull Memorial Race. The Trull family and Carolina Speedway have always given dirt race fans in the piedmont of North and South Carolina a first-class racing experience to kick-off the racing season in the area.

The race on Saturday, March 9, 2013 will be the first race of 2013 for the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series. In February, series officials announced the highly-anticipated merger with the Battle of the Eastern All Star Tour (BEAST) schedule and expect a large turn-out of racers for this event. Several drivers have already committed to attending this race, along with the intention to run for the series championship in 2013.
Skyler Trull was a special little girl whose family is deeply involved in dirt racing. Her uncle is super late model start Doug Sanders. When Skyler lost her battle with Leukemia on March 14th, 2000 she was only 5 years old. Her family decided a Memorial race in her honor would be a fitting tribute to the bright eyed redhead. The family went to work taking donations from fans and businesses to make the purse. The first STM was a $1,200 to win six-car dash.
"We are very honored and proud to be associated with the Skyler Trull Memorial", said Carolina Clash President Larry Lee. "The Trull family has worked very hard to preserve the spirit of Skyler throughout the racing community and we are just happy to assist in any way possible."

The Skyler Trull Memorial has been a long standing tradition for the Carolina Clash. As some may recall the exciting contest between Randle Chupp and Tim McCreadie just a few short years ago, along with the thrilling first career win for 2010 Rookie of the Year Dean Bowen. Chris Ferguson is a two-time STM winner (2009, 2011) and last year, Luke Roffers began his championship season with a victory at Carolina in this event. Every Skyler Trull Memorial has had the same, unique, and exciting racing year after year and this year promises to be no different. The event held in the honor of Skyler Trull each March has become a fixture in the southeast over the last decade. Skyler's father Larry is a crew member and cousin of veteran racer Doug Sanders. Sanders' car carries the colors of the event each year.

"The Skyler Trull race has turned into such a great show," said Carolina Speedway's Mark Gibbons. "It is so much more than a race; it's a weekend of fun and events. Huge crowds turn out for the event and it's definitely one we circle on the calendar every year."

The 2013 Carolina Clash season officially opened on March 3, 2013, with the Southern All Stars co-sanctioned running of March Madness at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC. Batesville, AR driver Jared Landers captured the event for the second year in a row, over his Barry Wright/Clint Bowyer Racing teammate Steve Francis. It would be the first Clash sanctioned victory for Jared Landers. Jonathan Davenport, 2012 SAS Dirt Champion Randy Weaver, and 2010, 2011 Carolina Clash Champion Dennis Franklin rounded out the top five at Cherokee. Each driver who competed in the March Madness event received four bonus points toward the regular season point race with Carolina Clash.
The 13th Annual Skyler Trull Memorial will be the first point race of the year for the Clash competition. The 2013 season will feature a very challenging schedule of events, where over 20 events are currently scheduled in five states. The 14+ race regular season will run from March - August and the JE Pistons and Roush Yates Performance Products Countdown to the Cup Championship Series will begin on August 24th, featuring an eight-race chase for the championship.
