Blaney Nets All Star Win, Three Top-Six Finishes during Stout Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - PORT ROYAL, Pa. (May 31, 2016) - Dale Blaney returned to Victory Lane to highlight a successful weekend for the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored CH Motorsports team.

"We put a new car together and that helped a little bit," he said. "We're learning. What we've been doing the last year and a half to two years is really not working right now. So we're trying to figure out some new stuff and how to go fast again. I think we made some gains this weekend."

The weekend began on Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, for an Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions event. Blaney qualified fourth quickest overall and placed third in a heat race to advance into the dash, where a seventh-place result lined him up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.

"We weren't that great in the dash," he said. "I fell back early at the start of the feature to 10th or 11th. I went from the bottom and moved straight to the top. I maintained for a little bit and then I got rolling. I picked guys off here and there. A couple of late cautions really helped."

Blaney charged from midpack to take the lead in the closing laps. It was his fourth win of the season and 25th career feature victory at Attica Raceway Park.

Here is a link to a highlight video of the feature: https://youtu.be/oqbzUbcKt50.

"I felt like I had a good enough car without the cautions I think I could have got there, but they definitely helped that," he said. "Any time you win it's a morale booster. Janet (Holbrook) was there and all the guys who help us were there. It was really good to get that win."

The momentum continued on Saturday at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio, where Blaney kicked off the All Star event by qualifying second quickest. He placed third in a heat race and third in the dash to start the main event on the inside of the second row.

"Every time we hit the track we were really good," he said. "We had a great starting spot for the A Main. I ran second for the first 12 or 13 laps. Rico (Abreu) and Sheldon (Haudenschild) both went by. I got back to third. Sheldon and Rico drove like 20-year-olds and I drove like a 52-year-old. We took what we could get. Those are championship nights when you take a third-place car and end second."

Blaney placed second to add to his All Star points lead.

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Port Royal Speedway at the Bob Weikert Memorial, where Blaney timed in seventh in his group and placed second in a heat race. He then advanced from ninth to sixth place during the main event.

"I didn't qualify great for when we went out and I wasn't that great in the heat race," he said. "We threw some stuff at it to get where we were when we won there a couple of months ago. I felt like I was pretty good in the A Main. I sealed my tires up and struggled the last part of it. I was good from Lap 12 to 20. From about Lap 20 on I kind of maintained. Track position was pretty crucial. The top seven or eight guys were in a line and nobody was faster than anyone else."

Monday's Bob Weikert Memorial race was rained out.

Blaney is slated to compete this Friday at Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio, with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series; and Saturday at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, and Sunday at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, Pa., with the All Stars.

Big Game Motorsports and Lasoski Post Pair of Podiums with National Sprint League

Inside Line Promotions - DES MOINES, Iowa (May 31, 2016) - Big Game Motorsports recorded a pair of top-five finishes last weekend during National Sprint League competition.

Danny Lasoski opened the weekend for the Muddy backed team on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, where he qualified third quickest before charging from sixth to third place in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the third row for the main event.

"They had a lot of rain so the race track was quite a bit different," he said. "We didn't get the car where it needed to be. I'll take the blame as a driver. I didn't give enough feedback. We were too tight all night long."

Lasoski ran inside the top five throughout the feature before finishing fourth, which kept him atop the National Sprint League championship standings and ranked second in the Knoxville Raceway championship standings.

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Iowa State Fair Speedway. Lasoski timed in third quickest during qualifying and he gained one position in a heat race to place fourth. That put him third in overall points and earned a spot in the Nehring Construction Pole Shootout, which determined the first four rows of the main event.

Lasoski defeated Sammy Swindell to advance to the final round, where Craig Dollansky got the jump to win. Lasoski started the feature on the front row alongside Dollansky, who quickly took the lead at the start of the 20-lap main event.

Lasoski stayed within striking distance and pulled even with Dollansky for the lead entering turn three just after the midpoint of the feature. Both drivers slid up the track and Dollansky was able to find grip first to keep the top spot.

"It came down to whoever got the lead on the start of the main event because the track was one lane," Lasoski said. "We didn't get the jump and didn't have an opportunity to get around Dollansky so we ran second."

Lasoski's second-place finish dropped him to second in the National Sprint League championship standings by 21 points.

The Muddy sponsored team will return to action this Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, with the National Sprint League.

Herrera Uses ASCS Gulf South Region Podium for Momentum as He Heads East

Inside Line Promotions - KILGORE, Texas (May 30, 2016) - Johnny Herrera powered to a podium finish on Sunday at Lone Star Speedway with the ASCS Gulf South Region.

"It was good to knock the rust off after sitting out a couple of weeks," he said.

Herrera won a heat race to advance into the feature redraw. Unfortunately, he pulled the second-highest number - seven - to start the main event on the inside of the fourth row.

"We did good up to the feature and didn't make too many changes," he said. "We weren't as good as we should have been in the feature. It's a race we learn from, make some notes and try to correct the mistakes at the next race."

Herrera maneuvered to the runner-up result, which marked his 10th top-five finish of the season. That also provides momentum as Herrera heads east with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour this week for a trio of races.

The series will compete on Wednesday at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Ind.; on Friday at Hartford Speedway in Hartford, Mich.; and on Saturday at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, Ind.

"I've only been to Hartford Speedway and that was years ago during a World of Outlaws race," he said. "I remember it being a big, flat half-mile track. I remember it having kinda loose dirt. That's about the extent of it."

The events at Plymouth Speedway and Brownstown Speedway will be Herrera's debut at each track.

"It'll be new for everybody," he said. "You don't go in there with the preset notion of what is going to happen. Everyone has to learn as we go along. There should be a lot of good local cars, too."

Herrera enters this week as the current Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour points leader. He has recorded a series-best six top fives in seven races this year.

Bruce Jr. Records First Victory of Season with GoMuddy.com NSL 360 NCRA/NSL Region

Inside Line Promotions - PARK CITY, Kan. (May 30, 2016) - Tony Bruce Jr. scored his first victory of the season and his first career driving for Danny King last Saturday at 81 Speedway, where Bruce Jr. made a late-race pass to claim the GoMuddy.com National Sprint League 360 NCRA/NSL Region event.

"It's a special feeling to see the excitement that's on not only Danny's face, but everybody who's been involved in racing with him," he said. "It's a good feeling to put his car back in Victory Lane. He's fielded a race car for 40-plus years. To go there at a place he's won a lot of races at and pick up a victory for him means a lot because it's been a while since he's been in Victory Lane."

The night began with Bruce Jr. advancing from fourth to second place in a heat race. That ranked him sixth in overall points and started the team on the outside of the third row for the 25-lap main event.

"The track turned out to be pretty racy," he said. "They had a bunch of rain and to get the race in was almost a miracle. I made some good laps around that track and things just worked out right and we finally got a win.

"We just rode around in fifth for the first 10 laps of the race. We had set the car up to make sure we were strong the last half of the race. My thing was to be patient at the beginning. Some of the holes in the track were pretty deep. My goal was to keep the leaders in sight and then once we got to lapped traffic really try to be aggressive and make our move."

Bruce Jr. had climbed into second place when a red flag came out with six laps remaining.

"I got to second and was right on the leader when the red came out," he said. "I really didn't want to see the red, but it worked out ok for us. I think our car was free enough toward the end of the race.

"I ended up passing (the leader) running the middle. It took us a couple of laps after the restart to take the lead. C.J. Johnson started to slow up and make sure he hit the bottom. I was able to use momentum and go around him in the middle. It was the roughest part of the race track, but I knew we had a car that could handle it."

The victory was also the first since June 28 of last year when Bruce Jr. was victorious at 81 Speedway.

He is scheduled to return to action this Friday at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Mo., with the ASCS Warrior Region and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. Bruce Jr. will drive for Jeff Smith both nights.

Dover Heading to I-80 Speedway and Eagle Raceway This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - SPRINGFIELD, Neb. (May 31, 2016) - Poor weather kept Jack Dover from competing last weekend.

"We've had as many rainouts as we've got races in so far this season," he said. "Hopefully the weather turns for the better soon and we can get back on the track consistently."

Dover is scheduled to climb back into his sprint car this Friday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., with the Carpetland Nebraska 360 Sprints. He finished 10th at the high-banked track during his season opener.

"We usually get around I-80 Speedway pretty well so I feel confident rolling into this weekend," he said. "We've won a lot of races there and it'd be nice to return to Victory Lane this weekend to get the first win of the season out of the way."

Dover was victorious at I-80 Speedway four times last season and he has recorded 10 feature triumphs at I-80 Speedway the past three-plus seasons.

This weekend will wrap up on Saturday at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., where Dover will drive a 305ci sprint car for Chris Roseland. Dover earned three top fives at the track last season and he won there twice in 2014.

"We don't get to race at Eagle Raceway very often anymore so I always look forward to going back there," he said. "I have a lot of laps on that track, especially in my early days of racing. Our goal is to go win another one."

Saturday is the third time this season Dover is scheduled to compete at Eagle Raceway. The two previous attempts were rained out.

Bergman Scores Victory at Badlands to Build Momentum Before ASCS National Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - BRANDON, S.D. (May 31, 2016) - Seth Bergman returned to Victory Lane on Sunday at Badlands Motor Speedway, where he won a heat race before claiming the main event.

The win was his fourth of the season and his first at the high-banked track since August 2014.

"We needed to get back to winning races so that was a good boost for our team," he said. "We had a good starting position for both the heat race and the main event and we were able to capitalize."

The triumph capped a solid weekend for Bergman, who also competed on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. Bergman qualified eighth quickest and placed third in a heat race before he maneuvered to his first top five of the season at the half-mile oval.

"We are making great strides at Knoxville and have improved every time we've been there this year," he said after finishing fifth. "We want to make as many laps as we can at Knoxville before the 360 Knoxville Nationals in August and I think we're gaining on where we need to be."

Bergman will take his momentum to Indiana and Michigan this week as he returns to Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour competition on Wednesday at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Ind., before events on Friday at Hartford Speedway in Hartford, Mich., and Saturday at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, Ind.

"We haven't been to any of those tracks, but I doubt any of the other ASCS National drivers have either," he said. "We are used to going to new tracks and having to adapt quickly so we shouldn't have any problem doing that this weekend and being able to contend for the lead."

Bergman ranks eighth in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship standings, but he is only 48 points out of fourth place.

Hagar Wins First Two USCS Speedweek Rounds, Records Podium in All Four Races

Inside Line Promotions - ATWOOD, Tenn. (May 31, 2016) - Derek Hagar is on an absolute tear.

Hagar has recorded six wins and 12 podium finishes during his last 13 races, including two wins and four podiums during the first four USCS Speedweek races last weekend.

"It feels pretty good because we've got to pad the bank account the last four nights of racing," he said. "Hopefully we can finish Speedweek strong and add more to the bank."

Hagar kicked off the USCS Speedweek last Friday at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss., where he swept the night. Hagar won the dash after starting fourth, claimed a heat race after starting on the pole and captured the main event after starting on the outside of the front row.

"We led the whole feature," he said. "We had a challenge with Brian (Bell) about the midpoint of the race. We got together and it ended his night. We went on to win the race. It was a late night of racing. It was three in the morning before we got to pull out of there."

Hagar's momentum followed the team on Saturday at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss. Hagar placed second in the dash and he charged from eighth to third place in a heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the third row for the main event.

"We got up to third pretty quick when a couple of guys in front of us got together and crashed," he said. "I got to second on the restart and chased Marshall Skinner down and passed him about Lap 8 or 9. I felt like I was doing pretty good. Before I knew it we had a challenge for the lead with Brian. He got by us on a restart and got away for a little, but we were closing back in in traffic when we had a caution with four laps to go. Once he had clean air again he set sail."

Hagar ended second, but he was credited with the win when the leader was disqualified because of a rule violation.

Greenville Speedway in Greenville, Miss., hosted racing on Sunday night with Hagar finishing second in the dash and third in a heat race. That started him 14th for the main event, which was cut down to 25 laps because of time following a rain delay earlier in the evening.

"We hadn't been starting that far back so we had a lot of work to do to get remotely close to the front," he said. "We got up there pretty quick. We got to the top five and once you do that the cars get harder to pass. It was a good race. We challenged for second and had a yellow so he got to go back in front of us. We got back up to second and chased down the leader. Then the white flag was displayed. I felt like we had a winning car if we went the full 30 laps."

Hagar posted a second-place result.

The weekend concluded on Monday at Clayhill Motorsports, where Hagar advanced from fifth to second in the dash and from sixth to second in a heat race. He started the main event on the inside of the third row.

"The race track had taken a lot of rain recently so there was a lot of water on the bottom of the race track," he said. "You had to really tip toe in around the bottom to finesse it enough to get off the bottom. You had to be patient and get a good run on people to pass them because you couldn't move off the bottom of the track."

Hagar maneuvered to a third-place result, which marked his 18th podium finish of the season.

The USCS Speedweek wraps up with races on Thursday at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala.; Friday at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss.; and Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark.

QUICK RESULTS -

May 27 - Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss. - Dash: 1 (4); Heat race: 1 (1); Feature: 1 (2).

Inside Line Promotions - LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (May 31, 2016) - Jason Sides has one of his most successful tracks on tap for this weekend.

Sides, who captured a fourth-place finish in 2014 during his most recent race at Fremont Speedway, has earned a top-six result at I-96 Speedway during five of the past six years. He was victorious in 2011 with podiums in 2010 and 2012, a fifth-place finish in 2013 and a sixth-place result last season.

"Some tracks you just get around better than others," he said. "We seem to have a good package figured out for I-96 Speedway so hopefully that continues this weekend. It certainly gives you more confidence going to a track where you've consistently ran well."

Sides is coming off an up-and-down week with the World of Outlaws. Last Tuesday (May 24) he qualified 22nd quickest, placed sixth in a heat race and third in the Last Chance Showdown to transfer into the back of the main event at New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, N.J. Sides then advanced from 23 rd to 18th in the Jersey Outlaw Classic main event.

Last Friday Sides timed in ninth quickest overall at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., for the Circle K/NOS Energy Drink Outlaw Showdown. He ended fourth in a heat race and 17th in the feature.

The rough week came to a close on Monday at Lawrenceburg Speedway, where Sides hit his head during his qualifying attempt and sat out the remainder of the night for precautionary reasons.

"We haven't had the best week so it's nice to have a couple of tracks coming up in Fremont and I-96 where we have been successful," he said. "The goal is to go into each night and put a good qualifying lap down to set ourselves up to be in contention at the end of the night."
