Bruce Jr. Secures Two 7th-Place Finishes at U.S. 36 Raceway and Knoxville Raceway

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 19, 2013) - Tony Bruce Jr. worked his way to a pair of seventh-place finishes over the weekend to extend his top-10 streak to six races.

Bruce Jr. rallied from 17th to seventh on Friday at U.S. 36 Raceway near Cameron, Mo., for the 2nd annual U.S. 36 Nationals Presented by RacinBoys - the inaugural TBJ Promotions event of 2013. He then ran in the top 10 all night Saturday during his season debut at Knoxville Raceway, where Bruce Jr. put together one of his best performances at the famed half mile.

Doing double duty as co-promoter and racer on a humid Friday at U.S. 36 Raceway, Bruce Jr. overcame a fourth-place finish in his Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour heat race to lead all 12 laps en route to the B Main victory for the second straight season at the U.S. 36 Nationals Presented by RacinBoys.

"On our heat race we just didn't get where we needed to be," he said. "Fortunately in the B Main, I had a good start, got out front and checked out. I just pretty much had to come from behind. I had a good car and could go where other people couldn't."

That trend continued in the 35-lap feature as Bruce Jr. charged from 17th to seventh on a track that favored aggressiveness. With most drivers favoring the bottom groove, Bruce Jr. rode the high line to make most of his passes around the high-banked oval.

"Everybody else pretty much got down on the bottom," he said. "We'd already set up to (race in the high groove). We made a bar change after the heat race and that really made the car come alive. I figured if we could get some momentum built up on the top side we could pick off some cars."
He remains in fifth place in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour standings.

On Saturday, Bruce Jr. and his team made their first visit to Knoxville Raceway, where he qualified third quickest in his first qualifying race of the season.

"Anytime you qualify well at Knoxville it means your stuff is good," he said. "In August it's all about qualifying."

With a six-car invert in each heat race, Bruce Jr. lined up on the outside of the third row in his heat race.
"I didn't get a real good start and was able to pick off a couple of cars there as the race went on," he said. "We need to work on our starts at Knoxville and just keep pace with everybody through (turns) one and two."

A fourth-place result earned Bruce Jr. a spot in the feature, which he started sixth.

"We were running fifth and had a restart at the beginning," he said. "I think we only had one lap in. On the restart I went in to dive down on the bottom and I went to push the brakes and I didn't have any. We had a mud clot break the brake line in half on the left front caliper. We didn't have any brakes from lap one on."
Bruce Jr. drove a conservative race to finish seventh, earning his ninth top 10 of the season.

"It might not have been the A Main we wanted, but as far as a night went I felt it was one of our better nights at Knoxville," he said. "We qualified well, ran well in the heats and finished well in the A."

Bruce Jr. has a trio of Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour events on the schedule this week. On Wednesday, he will compete at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo., before a trip to I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., on Thursday. The weekend will wrap up on Saturday at The Great American Dirt Track at Jetmore Motorplex in Jetmore, Kan., for the Steve King Memorial - also the next TBJ Promotions race.

Starks Notches His Fourth Consecutive Top-Four Finish at Skagit Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - ALGER, Wash. (May 19, 2013) - Saturday didn't start as planned, but Trey Starks liked the result.

After his scheduled 360 race at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., was rained out, Starks and his team put a 410 car in the trailer and headed for Skagit Speedway. Despite a good chance of rain, the show was completed with Starks earning his fourth consecutive top-four finish.

"We've had four straight races with a top five," he said. "You can't just be there and win. You've got to be consistently a top-five running car and that's what we are at this point in the season."

After the change in plans, the team swapped a steering box before loading the car and heading to Skagit Speedway. Following an early issue with a power steering line, which didn't allow Starks to get a solid hot-lap session, he qualified sixth quickest.

Following the heat race inversion, Starks started on the outside of the front row of his heat race.
"We had a little bit of stumble on the start," he said. "It got such a good run up off the corner. We won the heat by a half a lap. The car was absolutely a rocket."

He led all eight laps for his first heat race win of the season. Starks then lined up on the inside of the second row for the 25-lap feature after the top eight were inverted.

"We ran third for the first four or five laps until a caution," he said. "It was a tricky track. It was racy, but it was kind of clustered. This week's (turns) three and four had a really big cushion in the main event. It was rough in three and four in the heats and qualifying. By the main it was really smooth and slick up to a real big cushion. (Turns) one and two turned to being pretty rough and trying to cut through the middle and go to the bottom."

While trying to pass Jason Solwold for the runner-up position in the second half of the main event, Starks dropped to fourth place.

"It seemed like it was a race where you couldn't get up and get going," he said. "It was hard to get in a rhythm."

Starks is scheduled to compete at Grays Harbor Raceway on Friday and Saturday for the ASCS Northwest Region season-opening weekend.

Kinser Eyes World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series Return to Kokomo Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - KOKOMO, Ind. (May 20, 2013) - Kokomo Speedway is a special place for Kraig Kinser.

The native Hoosier earned his first career winged sprint car feature victory at the semi-banked, quarter-mile oval, which hosts the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series on Wednesday, June 5.

Kinser, who hails from Bloomington, picked up a thrilling victory in last season's lone event at Kokomo Speedway. It was his second career win at the track located approximately two hours from his hometown.
"The line usually changes there," he said. "There really isn't a key to getting around there. Be patient on the bottom. If it gets around the top, you've got to rip around the top."

Kinser is one of 12 drivers to earn a World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series victory at Kokomo Speedway and he's one of four to garner multiple wins.

"It's a tight, small track," he said. "You've got to be comfortable with cars all around you. There's always a car right there."

Twenty-time series champion Steve Kinser, who also resides in Bloomington, has a series-best six victories at Kokomo Speedway. Sammy Swindell won three and Stevie Smith claimed back-to-back wins in 1992-93.

Joey Saldana, Craig Dollansky, Dave Blaney, Andy Hillenburg, Danny Lasoski, Joe Gaerte, Bobby Davis Jr. and Jac Haudenschild also have a victory in World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series action at Kokomo Speedway.

Big Game Motorsports Combines for Three Top 10s Despite Rainy Weather

Inside Line Promotions - MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (May 20, 2013) - Mother Nature has been wreaking havoc on Big Game Motorsports and the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series the past few days.
Rain postponed the Gettysburg Clash at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., from Wednesday to Thursday, the Morgan Cup at Williams Grove Speedway was washed out on Saturday and the lone event at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y., was postponed from Sunday to Monday because of weather.

"It's kind of been hampering us a little bit, but it's hard to control Mother Nature," Eyecon Trail Cameras driver Craig Dollansky said.

Dollansky and Big Game Treestands teammate Sammy Swindell combined for three top 10s in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series events that were completed over the weekend.

Swindell continued his hot streak of qualifying in the top three by timing in quickest at Lincoln Speedway and third quickest at Williams Grove on Friday. With Randy Wolfe helping the crew, the Big Game Treestands team put together a podium finish at Lincoln Speedway before earning its 13th top 10 of the season at Williams Grove.

"We've made some changes to kind of go back to the basics," Swindell said. "Bringing Randy Wolfe in has definitely helped. We can talk about a lot of things and go through a bunch of things, and he's great around there."

Following a third-place finish at Lincoln Speedway, Swindell narrowly missed the dash at Williams Grove. Had he qualified one position higher or finished one position better in his heat race, Swindell would have advanced. However, his third-place qualifying effort and third-place result in the heat started Swindell 11th in the main event.

"Qualifying third over there at Williams Grove really hurt," he said. "I tried real hard to get into second. That was the only hope we had to get in the dash.

"We decided to gamble a little bit and go in a different direction and we did a couple of things a bit different just to see how it goes. We learned some things for it. The car was too tight at the start. I fell back to 15th or 16th spot. It was a struggle to pass cars."

Dollansky overcame a difficult night at Lincoln Speedway, where he missed the heat race inversion by one position in qualifying. While the Eyecon Trail Cameras car advanced to the feature through the heat race, Dollansky struggled in the main event as a bleeder fell out of the left rear wheel.

"That changed things up for us," he said. "So we had to ride that situation out. I was just struggling with the car."

Dollansky finished 23rd, which was only the second time in 23 races this season that he didn't record a top 20.

Friday at Williams Grove went quite a bit better as the Eyecon Trail Cameras car qualified 13th quickest to earn a spot in the heat race inversion. Dollansky claimed the heat race to advance to the dash, where he finished eighth.

"We actually had a pretty decent night going there," he said after placing eighth in the main event. "We definitely learned some things in the feature. We weren't bad. I was really looking forward to going back Saturday night to race the Morgan Cup, but we didn't get the opportunity to."

In addition to the postponed race at Orange County Fair Speedway on Monday, Dollansky, Swindell and the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series are scheduled to compete on Tuesday at the NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Classic at New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, N.J., and Friday with the Outlaw Showdown at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C.

Rose Back in the Saddle as World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series Invades Northeast

Inside Line Promotions - MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (May 20, 2013) - Last weekend was a mixed return for Bill Rose.

After taking nearly a month off to heal from a broken left arm, Rose competed with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series as it made its first visit of the season to Pennsylvania. While a couple of low qualifying spots put Rose behind from the start each night, his arm felt normal during the latest test.
"Actually the arm feels great," he said. "It doesn't hurt at all. I was kind of curious about how it was going to work at Lincoln, but it feels great."

Rose returned to action on Thursday at the Gettysburg Clash, which had been delayed by rain on Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa. Since Bill Rose Racing driver David Gravel recorded a lot of success while Rose was on the mend, he decided to try Gravel's setup.

"I wanted to try that out and see how that works because David had been doing so well in my car," Rose said. "I wanted to try it and get back in the swing of things as best as I can. It just doesn't work for me. I just drive a car different."

Rose qualified 39th at Lincoln Speedway and 40th on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway, putting him at the back of his heat race both nights.

"When you go to Pennsylvania and you get behind the eight ball in qualifying, it just doesn't make for a good night of racing," he said.

Rose didn't advance through the heat either night and was relegated to the C Main, where he finished each night. It was a sour return to the seat, but the silver lining is that his arm didn't suffer any setbacks.
"That's a bummer right now," Rose said of the results. "But everything's coming together and everything will be alright."

Gravel finished 17th both nights, including a Last Chance Showdown win at Lincoln Speedway.
"It was a good, solid run for Pennsylvania," Rose said.

Rose, Gravel and the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series were rained out on Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway and on Sunday at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y.

They are scheduled to make up the event at Orange County Fair Speedway on Monday with the NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Classic on Tuesday at New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, N.J. The week will conclude with the Outlaw Showdown at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., on Friday.
