Bruce Jr. Eyes US 36 Nationals Presented by RacinBoys and Knoxville Raceway

Inside Line Promotions - OWASSO, Okla. (May 12, 2013) - Following a rare weekend off, Tony Bruce Jr. has a lot on his plate this week.

Amidst logistical issues regarding his truck and trailer, Bruce Jr. is also sharing focus on two races with varying degrees of difficulty this weekend. His business - TBJ Promotions - is set for its first race of the season on Friday at US 36 Raceway near Cameron, Mo., for the 2nd annual US 36 Nationals Presented by RacinBoys, which features the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

"I'm looking forward to going and racing there," he said. "Last year we had to come out of the B Main. We had a pretty good car. Every time we've been there we've had a fast car. Hopefully we can get better track position and win one of our races."

Bruce Jr. claimed the B Main and then charged from 17th to eighth at the inaugural US 36 Nationals Presented by RacinBoys last July. He is again pulling double duty as co-promoter and competitor at the first Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event since April 6. Bruce Jr. is currently tied for fourth in the standings.
On Saturday, Bruce Jr. and his crew will visit the famed Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, for their first test since the Knoxville Nationals last August.

"It's more of just redeeming ourselves from last year," he said. "We led some laps in the 360 Knoxville Nationals on the prelim night and didn't finish how we wanted. We've just got to get up to Knoxville and get some laps."

Bruce Jr. earned the pole of the 20-lap feature on the second preliminary night of the 22nd annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals. He led the first seven laps before dropping to 14th.

"We just faded so bad," Bruce Jr. said. "It was a real big disappointment last year.

"We've got our brand new Roush Yates 360 engine to take over there and shake down. We're going there to get some laps and ultimately to win. Everybody wants to win a race at Knoxville."

SEASON STATS -
14 races, 1 win, 5 top fives, 7 top 10s, 13 top 15s, 14 top 20s

Starks Earns Another Podium to Open Summer Thunder Series at Skagit Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - ALGER, Wash. (May 12, 2013) - Trey Starks categorized the initial round of the Summer Thunder Series a success.

With a great track and solid car count, Starks recorded a podium at the first show of the four-race event at Skagit Speedway on Saturday.

"It was a really cool race track," he said. "It had a top, had a bottom. You could even run through the middle a bit. We had a good car in the main; just the top three, four cars were all fast."
A week after picking up his first victory of the season at the 3/10-mile oval, Starks qualified third quickest of the 31 drivers. With the heat races inverted by four, Starks lined up on the outside of the second row in his 10-lap heat race.

"It was just a tight night of racing," he said. "Tempers were kinda up. Everybody raced hard. We got into it with a guy in the heat for a transfer spot. We battled for a couple of laps and he ran me up to the fence with a dirty slider. It just about junked both of us. That was probably the maddest I've ever been when I've been racing."

Starks dropped to sixth for a couple of laps before picking up a position on the third lap of his heat race. He then regained the fourth and final transfer spot in the closing laps to advance to the 30-lap feature, which he started third.

Starks fell to fourth place on the initial start and battled for a top three for most the event before fading to sixth on Lap 20. He powered into fifth place on Lap 24, advanced to fourth on Lap 27 and moved to third on the ensuing lap.

"We got another podium, which is good," Starks said. "Obviously you're going for the win again, but there are some really good guys this weekend and the field was great."

Starks has recorded three straight top-four finishes since a part failure forced him to crash while running second early in his season opener.

He is set to compete on Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., where he qualified quickest two weeks ago before the program was rained out prior to the heat races.

Rose's Return Delayed for One More Week, Set for Lincoln on Wednesday

Inside Line Promotions - PLAINFIELD, Ind. (May 13, 2013) - The trailer was loaded and Bill Rose was ready to haul to Minnesota last Thursday.

Unfortunately, a last-minute emergency prohibited Rose from returning to World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series action after a broken left arm has sidelined him for much of this season. Rose was slated to compete at the FVP Outlaws at Elko on Friday at Elko Speedway in Elko, Minn., and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, at the Mediacom Shootout.

"I wanted to race this past weekend so bad, but there are things in life that are more important than racing," Rose said. "I was going to be returning a week early so now this just puts us back on schedule."
Rose will now return to the seat on Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., for the Gettysburg Clash before a weekend doubleheader at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for the Morgan Cup.

Bill Rose Racing driver David Gravel did race over this past weekend, recording two more top 20s.
After earning a transfer out of the Last Chance Showdown, Gravel placed 20th in the inaugural event at Elko Speedway.

On Saturday, Gravel again was in good position to garner a Last Chance Showdown transfer to the feature when the power steering line blew. He was forced to use his first World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series provisional and started the feature 25th.

Gravel rallied and nearly picked up his 10th top-10 finish with Bill Rose Racing as he finished 11th. He is seventh in the championship standings.

Rilat Runner-Up at Skagit Speedway's Summer Thunder Series Opener

Inside Line Promotions - ALGER, Wash. (May 13, 2013) - It was a solid season debut for Travis Rilat last Saturday in Richard and Lana Saumure's sprint car.

With only a half-dozen events this season in his own car, Rilat flew to the Northwest for the first race of the Summer Thunder Series presented by SpeedMart on Saturday at Skagit Speedway, where he recorded a season-best second-place finish.

"We didn't get the result we wanted," Rilat said. "We could have won, but just didn't have as good a handle on the car. We did what we could."

Of the 31 entries, Rilat qualified sixth quickest. With the heat races inverted by four, Rilat started - and finished - in third place to advance to the 30-lap feature. Two drivers who qualified quicker than Rilat failed to advance through their heats and with the feature inverted by four, Rilat began on the pole.
"The preferred line would have been the top on the start," he said. "It was just better up on the top."
Travis Jacobson, a former track champion who has won almost every big event at Skagit Speedway the past couple of years, rocketed to the lead on the start from outside the front row. Rilat remained in striking distance for the first seven laps before Chad Hillier advanced to the runner-up position on Lap 8.
Rilat returned the favor to regain second place with five laps remaining, but was unable to maneuver around Jacobson for the victory.

"He's got a pretty good setup figured out," Rilat said of Jacobson. "We were close. We weren't far off. "
Rilat will return to his car on Saturday for a Smiley's Racing Products ASCS Lone Star Region event at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas. He claimed a B Main and charged from 17th to fifth at the half mile earlier this season with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
