HOME STATE RACE FOR TEAM OWNER MOTTER IN MINNESOTA;
SALDANA LOOKING TO CONTINUE FAMILY TRADITION IN KNOXVILLE

ELKO, Minn. (May 5, 2013) – When the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car teams unload their powerful winged vehicles at Elko Speedway Friday May 10, they will be scored evenly at this high-banked 3/8 mile oval:  no wins, no losses.

It will be the first time the Outlaws will have competed at this facility.  In other forms of racing, the track is known for two and three-wide racing.

“It’s always exciting to race at a new venue and we look forward to putting on a good show for some fans who don’t often have an opportunity to see us race,” said Joey Saldana, driver of the Motter Equipment Fatheadz Eyewear 71M sprint car.  “We also consider this a sort of home track for Dan Motter who owns this team. It is an opportunity for him to bring some of his friends, family and business associates.”

Motter, who owns Motter Equipment, a global supplier of mining and construction equipment and component part for surface mining and construction industries, has corporate offices in Pengilly, Minn.

This season marks Motter’s return to the sport after a 15-year hiatus.  After fielding a team for some of sprint car racing’s best drivers in the 1990s, he retired from ownership in 1997, returning this year with a seasoned crew, first-rate equipment and a driver he feels can win the coveted championship.

“Dan has the passion for this sport and he jumped in head first to start the team up again this season,” continued Saldana. “We are trying to get him the results he deserves.”

When the race at Elko Speedway wraps Friday night, the tour will pack up and head to Knoxville, Iowa for the Mediacom Shootout Saturday.

“The Knoxville race in August is our Indy 500,” said Saldana.  “So it’s important to get as many laps as you can on this track prior to the big event to build your notebook and data base to give you tune-up and set-up information for reference.

“My dad won the Knoxville Nationals in 1970 and I’d love to put my name in the history books as well.  We have finished second at this event three times but haven’t won it yet.
“It’s definitely on my ‘to do’ list.”

The second generation driver won on the black Iowa soil in June of 2006 and definitely knows his way around the half-mile Knoxville Raceway oval.

“Winning the trophy Saturday in Knoxville would be a great tune-up for the Nationals in August.”

Starks Captures First Victory of the Season in Double Duty at Skagit Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - ALGER, Wash. (May 5, 2013) - A new month brought a new opportunity for Trey Starks.

Facing no chance of rain for the first time this season, Starks opened the month of May with double duty at Skagit Speedway on Saturday. He led all 25 laps to claim his first feature victory of the season in his first 360-ci event and he finished fourth in the 410-ci race.

"It's nice that the first actual race we got to run we won," he said after his fourth career win and second at Skagit.

After a handful of rainouts and a parts failure in the opening laps of his only race this season, Starks entered Saturday at the 3/10-mile track on a mission. He qualified fourth quick and finished second in his heat race, which put him on the pole of the feature.

Starks fell to second in the opening turn, but rallied to regain the lead entering turn three.

"I cut under him coming off (turn) two and finished him in (turns) three and four," Starks said. "The only trouble was going to be lapped traffic and it was no trouble."

A handful of cautions bunched the field up several times, including one with approximately five laps remaining, but Starks hit his marks consistently and ended up lapping all but the top six drivers.

He then climbed into his 410 sprint car for the 25-lap feature in that class, which he also started on the pole after qualifying fourth and placing fourth in his heat race.

"We had some power steering trouble," he said. "It was tough battling. I was holding on as long as I could. I was at the car's will. I was trying to run a smooth line, trying to salvage what I could."

Starks dropped to second on the opening lap. He fell to third place on Lap 10 and to fourth on Lap 11. Starks faded to fifth place for two laps before reclaiming the fourth position for the final five laps.

"It was a really good night to pick up a win and two top fives," he said. "Like I said last week, maybe we'll get some good karma after having the bad luck with the rain and crash to start the season."

Starks will return to Skagit Speedway on Saturday to compete in the first of the four-race Summer Thunder Series presented by SpeedMart.

Bruce Jr. Earns Fourth Consecutive Top-Five Finish in Texas Regional Action

Inside Line Promotions - HIGHLANDS, Texas (May 5, 2013) - For the second weekend in a row, Mother Nature derailed TBJ Promotions' first event of the season - the Eagle Motorsports Rock 'N Roll 50.
And for the second weekend in a row, TBJ Promotions Founder Tony Bruce Jr. found himself in Texas competing in ASCS regional action. Once again, Bruce Jr. recorded a pair of top-five finishes with the ASCS Gulf South Region to make that four consecutive top fives.

"It was a pretty solid weekend for us," he said. "It was unfortunate that we got rained out at the Eagle Motorsports Rock 'N Roll 50, but we found a couple of races we could fill our schedule with and took advantage of an off weekend with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour."

Bruce Jr. opened the weekend on Friday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, where he finished 17th with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour a month earlier.

"We were pretty decent in the heat race, but it was really wet and hard to pass," said Bruce Jr., who finished fourth in his heat. "It lined us up a little bit deep in the field."

Bruce Jr. started 12th in the feature at the quarter-mile track, where he worked his way into the top three before a restart in the closing laps.

"We were able to actually get all the way to third," he said. "On the last restart I just missed the bottom. I was trying to go after (Aaron) Reutzel there for second. I just missed the bottom and slipped up, let two cars by me.

"We were pretty terrible at Beaumont earlier this year with the National Tour race. We made a lot of changes and have kinda gotten the car figured out. It was a pretty solid night for us there at Beaumont."
Bruce Jr. overcame a challenging heat race on Saturday at Battleground Speedway, where he again rallied for a top five in the feature.

"We just absolutely missed it in the heat race," he said. "I think we missed it setup-wise and driver-wise. I didn't get a good start. I was running third by the first corner. I just spun the tires on the bottom."
After dropping from the pole position to fourth in his heat race, Bruce Jr. started the main event in 14th.
"We made the changes that we needed to," he said. "I refocused myself and kind of got my mind together. It was a really good run for us. We had the car working really well and I felt like I made all the right moves that I needed to.

"Halfway through the race the track took a little rubber on the bottom, but you could still work the top of (turns) three and four around the cushion. We were able to pin some guys down in the rubber behind lapped traffic. I think experience allowed us to just make those moves and make them aggressively and pick off those spots."

Bruce Jr. is taking this weekend off from competition before returning on Friday, May 17, at the US 36 Nationals Presented by RacinBoys.com at US 36 Raceway near Cameron, Mo., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. It is the next scheduled TBJ Promotions event as well.

Rose Ready to Return After Announcing Gravel Added Full Time to BRR

Inside Line Promotions - ROSSBURG, Ohio (May 6, 2013) - Bill Rose is full of announcements lately.
On the public address system Friday at Eldora Speedway, Rose declared that David Gravel would be in a second car for Bill Rose Racing for the rest of the season with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series.

On Monday, Rose said he will return to the seat a week earlier than anticipated. After being sidelined from a broken arm sustained in the season-opening weekend and a short return last month, Rose said physical therapy has done wonders with his left arm and he will return this weekend when the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series competes at Elko Speedway in Elko, Minn., on Friday for the FVP Outlaws at Elko.
"I was actually going to start back at Lincoln Speedway the following week, but this thing has come together pretty quick," Rose said of his deal to keep Gravel with Bill Rose Racing.

Gravel has four top-five finishes, nine top 10s and 14 top 15s this season, including two more over the weekend at the famed Eldora Speedway. He ranks sixth in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series and has helped Bill Rose Racing to seventh in the owner points.

"We're teaming up with his car owner that way he can run the rest of the year," Rose said. "That way he can run for Rookie of the Year and run for points. I think it's just going to work out really well for both of us. He'll take care of the pressure of keeping the points up and I can just go out and race."

On Friday at the half-mile track, Gravel qualified fifth quickest and finished third to earn a spot in the dash. The invert placed him fourth for the six-lap dash, a race which he battled an ill-handling car and dropped to eighth.

"We had the car way too loose in the dash," Rose said. "At Eldora if you don't have your stuff right, you're messed up already."

Gravel rallied in the 30-lap feature to finish seventh, which was his fifth consecutive top 10.
A hole in the opening turn plagued the team on Saturday at Eldora Speedway, where Gravel qualified 18th to narrowly miss the heat race inversion.

"The car kept bottoming out," Rose said. "We raised the car and it just killed the forward drive in the car."
After missing out on advancing through his heat race by one position, Gravel was relegated to the Last Chance Showdown. He finished second to Tony Stewart to earn a transfer to the feature, which Gravel started 18th.

He picked up a handful of positions to finish 14th in the main event.

"Definitely a solid weekend," Rose said. "It's racing with the best. I'm definitely happy with everything."

Race Results:
03-May – Limaland Motorsports Park, Lima, OH (Double Features) 2nd, 1st
04-May – Eldora Speedway, Rossburg, OH 1st

Limaland: (05-03-13)
The “Dr Javis Modifed Double Dare” featured two complete modified shows in the same night. We started 7th in the first feature event and I was able to race up to a 2nd place finish behind race winner Jeff Babcock. We then started 3rd in the second feature and I was able to take the lead early to go on to claim our first modified feature win of 2013!  Big thanks to Miracle Motorsports for letting me wheel their number 23J Buzzard Modified.

Eldora Speedway Release: (05-04-13)
In the Modified feature, Ada’s Henry started on the outside pole and vaulted past inside pole sitter Brandon Vaughan of Spencerville. Henry and Wapakoneta’s Jerry Bowersock recreated their duel from Limaland Motor Sports Park on Friday night when the two battled in that Modified feature. Henry edged out Bowersock for that win, too.

Bowersock appeared to take the lead with two laps left when Henry slowed on the front stretch, but got back on the gas in Turn 1. Henry said he thought a caution came out but realized it hadn’t when Bowersock shot past him. Fortunately for Henry a caution did come out before Bowersock could click off the lap. Without the completed lap the lead reverted back to Henry.

He kept it this time with a two-lap shootout despite another caution on the white flag lap. Bowersock tried to peek under Henry on the final turn but was too far behind to pull off a slide job.

The Modified win was the first for Henry at Eldora since winning two straight on June 4 and June 28 in 2008. It was his fifth Modified win overall at Eldora.

“It’s absolutely awesome to be back here in Victory Lane at Eldora,” Henry said. “I have to thank Miracle Motorsports and Dean and Jane for letting me wheel this race car. We’re having fun out here. I’m just blessed to be able to do this.”
