Rodney Sanders Tops Freedom Classic for $5k Payday; WoO Week Ahead

Happy, Texas (07/05/16) – For the first time in 2016 Rodney Sanders parked his Wichita Tank Racing #20 MB Customs/Clements Super Late Model in victory lane with a triumph on Saturday night at the Salina Highbanks Speedway.

Running with the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) and the MARS DIRTcar Series, Rodney Sanders visited Salina Highbanks Speedway (Salina, Oklahoma) on Saturday night for the 3rd Annual Freedom Classic. Earning the 3rd-starting spot for the feature via preliminary results, Sanders parked his #20 Swan Energy/MB Customs Super Late Model in victory lane at the end of 40-lap A-Main.

Inheriting the top spot when race-leader Will Vaught pulled off due to a flat-tire, Rodney paced the field for the remaining 14 circuits to pick up his first Super Late Model victory of the season and seventh overall. Pocketing a $5,000 payday, Sanders was trailed by Jesse Stovall, Tad Pospisil, Terry Phillips, and Austin Siebert across the finish line.

He was also in action in the Open Wheel Modified division, where he started the night with a heat race win, securing his position into the main event. Bringing home a podium finish, Rodney crossed the finish line in 2nd behind race winner, Chad Wheeler with Jeremy Rasmussen, Jason Hughes, and Mitch Keeter rounding out the Top 5.

"We've been second here so many times it feels good to get a win," Sanders said. "I lost brakes there the last 20 laps. We've kind of struggled this year. I saw Will was going pretty hard there at the beginning. I could run with him a little bit, then I lost brakes and was just gonna ride. Luckily we held on for the win."

Indiana, Pennsylvania (07/05/16) – Gregg Satterlee raced to the first Ultimate Late Model Series win of his career on Saturday night with a $5,000 triumph in the annual Red Nininger Memorial at Winchester Speedway. The victory came behind the wheel of his Satterlee Petroleum Distributors #22 Rocket Chassis XR1/ Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model.

Gregg Satterlee traveled to Bedford Speedway (Bedford, Pennsylvania) on Friday night for the unsanctioned Milt Miller Tribute. Posting the fastest time in a field of 22 entries, Satterlee earned the pole position for the $3,000-to-win A-Main. Losing two positions in the 30-lap feature, Gregg notched a 3rd-place finish behind Matt Cosner and Allen Brannon with Jason Covert and Jeff Rine rounding out the top five.

Among his accomplishments was a Late Model win on Friday night at Bubba Raceway Park.

“We kind of backed into that win because the guy that initially won was light at the scales, so we were bumped up from 2nd to the victory” said Clem. “I know that’s a tough way to lose a race, but we’ve had our fair share of bad luck this year, so we’ll definitely take this win.”

Competing in two separate divisions, Tyler Clem returned to Bubba Raceway Park (Ocala, Florida) on Friday night, battling in his Sprint Car and Late Model. Bringing home his first Late Model win of the season, Clem initially finished 2nd in the main event, but inherited the top spot when the race winner weighed in 60 lbs light at the scales. The victory marked Tyler's 3rd overall of the season.

After placing 3rd in his heat race in the Sprint Car division, Tyler notched a 5th-place finish in the Top Gun Sprints sanctioned A-Main, trailing Matt Kurtz, Johnny Gilbertson, Mark Ruel Jr., and Keith Butler to the checkers.

Making his third start of the weekend – all in different divisions – Tyler Clem visited Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Florida) on Sunday night for the $3,000-to-win Daytona Sportswear Modified event. In a field of 17 entries, Clem recorded a 3rd-place finish in his heat, securing his spot into the 30-lap A-Main. Posting his third Top-5 finish of the weekend, Tyler scored a 4th-place finish behind Larry Burkins, Todd Neiheiser, and Dillon Buhr with David Reutimann finishing 5th.

Bruce Jr. Places Second during Steve King Memorial Preliminary Feature

Inside Line Promotions - DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 5, 2016) - Tony Bruce Jr. pocketed a pair of top-10 finishes last weekend during the Steve King Memorial.

Bruce Jr., who drove for Danny King during the NCRA doubleheader at Dodge City Raceway Park, kicked off the action on Friday by winning a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. That put him on the pole for the main event.

"Friday night we had a good draw and great starting positions for the heat race and the A Main," he said. "I was able to keep it up front. Unfortunately, we didn't get the win, but I felt like it was a good night for us."

Bruce Jr. ended with a runner-up performance.

The finale was delayed until Sunday because of rain throughout Saturday and once racing resumed Bruce Jr. fell behind the eight ball. He drew a high number that started him on the last row of a heat race.

"The track took a little rubber for the heat races and qualifiers," he said. "I wasn't able to do much in the heat. That put us on the pole of a qualifier. We had to capitalize and make sure we won that."

Bruce Jr. placed sixth in a heat race before he won a qualifier. That ranked him 10th in overall points and lined him up on the outside of the fifth row for the main event.

"The track was one lane around the top," he said. "I was able to make a few moves. At one point I was up to fifth, but we lost a spot on a restart. We did the best we could and we were a sixth-place car."

Bruce Jr. capped the weekend with a sixth-place result, which marked his seventh top 10 of the season.

He will return to action this weekend during a tripleheader driving from Jeff Smith. The team will compete on Thursday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., and Friday at Outlaw Motor Speedway in Wainwright, Okla., with the ASCS Red River Region before wrapping up the weekend on Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.

Hagar Earns 10th Win of the Season during USCS Visit to Diamond Park

Inside Line Promotions - NASHVILLE, Ark. (July 5, 2016) - Derek Hagar scored his 10th feature victory of the season to cap last weekend's tripleheader with the USCS Series.

Hagar led the distance of the event on Sunday at Diamond Park Speedway to record the triumph, which also marked his 13th straight podium finish.

"It was a pretty successful weekend and it was great to end it with a win after two straight second-place finishes," he said.

Hagar opened the weekend on Friday at Crowley's Ridge Raceway in Paragould, Ark., where he advanced from sixth to third place in a dash and from fourth to second place in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

"We set ourselves pretty far back behind some good guys," he said. "We worked our way through there. I got up to fourth fairly quickly rolling through the middle of the track. It got strung out and I wasn't gaining until we got to lapped traffic. I slid the guy for third and three lapped cars going into one corner. You have to have a game plan and picture what's going to go on and hopefully it goes that way. Marshall Skinner slid Brad Bowden for the lead and I got up to second. We had a couple of late-race cautions. I tried to make a couple of charges for the lead, but I didn't have enough momentum to make something happen."

Hagar held on for a runner-up result.

He took that momentum into Saturday's event at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. Hagar won the dash and was second in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the front row for the feature.

"I led going into turn one and we had a slide job thrown at us and then he took off," he said. "I fell back to third around Lap 15 and we had a red flag. Cody Gardner had two flat tires so that put us back to second. We rode there the rest of the race. We just had to hang on and try not to do anything crazy and finish the race. We had red flag after red flag. They finally cut it to a 30-lap feature. We were on the track for an hour and a half."

Hagar finished second for the second straight night.

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Diamond Park Speedway, where Hagar won the dash. He charged from ninth to third place in the first heat race and placed second in the second heat race to earn the most combined points and the pole position for the main event.

"That track has probably one of the biggest straightaways with the tightest corners," he said. "It's right around the bottom and if you don't slip off the bottom you won't get passed. It was a boring race, but it felt good to get the win."

Hagar's win was his fifth with the series this season.

He will return to USCS competition this Saturday at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Miss.

QUICK RESULTS -

July 1 - Crowley's Ridge Raceway in Paragould, Ark. - Dash: 3 (6); Heat race: 2 (4); Feature: 2 (8).

Sides Charges to Top Five during Weekend Finale at Badlands Motor Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - BRANDON, S.D. (July 5, 2016) - Jason Sides wrapped up a trio of World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series races last week with his fifth top five of the season.

Sides scored the fifth-place result on Sunday at Badlands Motor Speedway, where he picked up back-to-back finishes in the top six after surviving with a 12 th-place result last Wednesday during the Outlaw Clay Classic at Rockford Speedway in Loves Grove, Ill.

"I was just trying to stay in one piece," he said of Rockford Speedway, which is a paved track that was covered in dirt for the event. "That was the roughest track I've been on in my career."

Sides qualified ninth quickest before placing fourth in a heat race and 12th in the main event that night.

Focus shifted to Badlands Motor Speedway for a weekend doubleheader, which Sides kicked off on Saturday by timing in second quickest in his group. He then finished second in a heat race to make the dash, where he ended eighth to start the main event on the outside of the fourth row.

"I picked up a couple of spots on the bottom when someone would slip up," he said. "It was a good night for us."

Sides garnered a sixth-place finish and he carried that momentum into Sunday's event.

"We had a really good track both nights," he said.

Sides qualified seventh quickest in his group before he advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the fifth row for the main event.

"That made all the difference in the world," he said of his pass in the heat race. "We ended up starting 10th instead of 14th. We were pretty good around the bottom. I went to the top for a few laps. It was a really good race. They did a good job of knocking the curb down at the beginning of the race. We had the bottom rolling really well."

Sides powered to a fifth-place finish and he was on the bumper of the fourth-place driver at the finish line. Sides also netted the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

The team will return to World of Outlaws competition this Friday and Saturday at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., for the FVP Outlaws at Cedar Lake.

Big Game Motorsports and Lasoski Take NSL Points Lead following Podium at Knoxville

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 5, 2016) - Big Game Motorsports driver Danny Lasoski is back on top of the National Sprint League championship standings.

Lasoski charged from eighth to third place last Friday at Knoxville Raceway to garner his sixth podium of the season during NSL competition. He now holds a 73-point advantage in the standings.

"I'm very proud of what Guy (Forbrook) and the Muddy team has been doing as far as getting our car prepared to pass cars," he said. "We're getting our car better and better each race."

Lasoski opened last Friday's event by qualifying second quickest. He then advanced from sixth to third place in a heat race and was ranked as the highest points earner heading into the feature inversion. Unfortunately, the highest number - eight - was drawn, which started the Muddy sponsored team on the outside of the fourth row for the 20-lap main event.

Lasoski methodically maneuvered into the top five before he took advantage of a pair of late cautions when he passed a car on each of two attempts at a green-white-checkered finish to score a third-place result.

Saturday's National Sprint League race at Knoxville Raceway rained out.

Lasoski and the Muddy backed team will return to competition this Friday at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., with the National Sprint League and World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.

Lasoski enters this weekend leading the Knoxville Raceway championship standings by 73 points with four points-paying races remaining this season.

Blaney Eyeing All Star Victory at Lou Blaney Memorial This Saturday

Inside Line Promotions - LAKE ODESSA, Mich. (July 5, 2016) - Dale Blaney is heading into a special race this weekend with one thing on his mind.

"That's a race that you definitely want to get at some point," he said. "I've run second in that race a few times and have never won it. We came from 20 th to fourth in the Ohio Speedweek race (last month). Hopefully we'll put ourselves in position to do something good."

The race he's talking about is the 8th annual Lou Blaney Memorial, which honors his late father and is held this Saturday at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions.

The Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored CH Motorsports driver has won at the track before; just not during the marquee event. This year he enters with momentum after nearly earning a pair of podium finishes last weekend in Michigan with the All Stars.

Blaney kicked off the doubleheader on Friday at Hartford Speedway in Hartford by qualifying third quickest overall and fastest in his group. He then advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race to make the dash, where a runner-up result lined him up on the outside of the front row for the main event.

"That was a tough place to pass," he said. "In the feature I just couldn't get the jump from where I was at. I had a couple of opportunities to slide (Sheldon Haudenschild) in turns one and two, but that was a tough spot to slide someone. Looking back on it I should have. Sheldon and I were pretty equal. It all depended on who got out in clean air."

Blaney ran second throughout the feature before finishing in that position.

He took that momentum into Sunday's Tony Stewart presents the Inaugural Dirty 30 event at I-96 Speedway, where Blaney established a new track record during qualifying. He then won a heat race after starting fourth and charged from seventh to third place in the dash.

"We made a couple of good adjustments and went from seventh to third in the dash," he said. "We made a couple of more small adjustments and didn't have a chance to see what would happen in the feature."

Blaney advanced into second place within the first handful of laps before a mechanical problem sent him into the infield around Lap 5.

"I felt like it was a really good weekend for us that didn't end good with a motor issue on Sunday night," he said. "I felt like we ran good all weekend and I got my car back to where I can be comfortable racing again. Every time we were on the track we got better and you can't ask for anything more."
