Bell Adds World Title to Accolades – Indiana Midget Week Up Next

Lonnie Wheatley, NORMAN, Okla. (June 4, 2014) – Christopher Bell continues to rack up the honors with last weekend’s POWRi Midget sweep not only running his 2014 win total to eleven triumphs but also netting the first ever POWRi World title.

The Norman, OK, native drove past Keith Kunz Motorsports stablemate Tanner Thorson in the early going of Friday night’s Ford EcoBoost Challenge Weekend opener at Indiana’s Bloomington Speedway before finishing off the weekend double with a late move around Kiwi Michael Pickens to take Brownstown honors on Saturday night.

With his ninth Midget score of the 2014 campaign to go along with a pair of wins in the Winged 410 Sprint Car ranks, including his first World of Outlaws triumph in May, Bell and the Keith Kunz Motorsports team will take the weekend off to prep for next week’s USAC Indiana Midget Week that fires off Wednesday night, June 11, at Gas City.

This past weekend’s sweep not only ran Bell’s season total to seven wins in ten POWRi Midget starts but also put the clamps on the first POWRi World Title that also included events in New Zealand and Australia.
“It’s definitely an honor to win it, especially since it’s the first time they’ve had a World Championship,” Bell commented.  “It was fun and a real honor to have the opportunity to go race with those guys in New Zealand and Australia and I was fortunate to get teamed up with a good car owner and good crew chief in both places and win a couple of races.”

While Bell drove the Keith Kunz Motorsports entry in the stateside events, Bell took the wheel of Steven Currie’s Midget wrenched by Tim Clark in New Zealand and then drove for Jason and Collin Bell in Australia with Currie and Clark on the wrenches.

Dominant in POWRi Midget action thus far while also mixing in a variety of events in a variety of cars, the focus remains clear as the 19-year-old defends his USAC National Midget title.

“Our focus is on the full USAC Midget schedule then filling in with select POWRi Midget events and winged Sprint Car events with a variety of car owners,” Bell explained.

In addition to the Kunz Midget, Bell has parked the Fox Brothers No. 53 winged 410 Sprint Car in victory lane in a couple of times with other action thus far aboard a Kunz winged 410, Brandon Berryman’s winged ASCS 360 Sprint Car and several USAC Silver Crown outings.

Bell even added his first non-wing 410 Sprint Car start of the year this past Friday night, driving the Fox Brothers No. 53 to a runner-up finish as he pulled double duty for the evening that also included Midgets.  Some additional wingless Sprint Car outings will likely fill in Bell’s scheduled for the remainder of the year.
A busy slate of action thus far in 2014 that has already included 43 events continues on next week as Bell defends his USAC Indiana Midget Week title.

Bell summed up the early portion of the 2014 season by saying that, “We’ve had our ups and downs, but it’s been pretty good overall.”

2014 Quick Stats:  43 races, 11 wins, 25 top-fives, 29 top-tens.
