Kyle Beard Wins CCSDS Championship with NEA Speedway Triumph

Mercer, Tennessee (09/11/13) – Kyle Beard had a career outing in front of many of his friends and family on Saturday night at his home track, Northeast Arkansas Speedway (Harrisburg, Arkansas) as he piloted his #86 Greg's Sawmill/Gary Beard Trucking/Bob Pierce/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model to the $2,500 feature win, and along the way he clinched his first COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) Super Late Model title.

Twenty-four entries registered for competition, and Kyle started his night by winning his heat race from the 3rd starting spot to lock into the 2nd starting position for the 35 lap finale alongside pole sitter, Billy Moyer Jr. As the race went green it was 3rd starting Dane Dacus, who shot to the lead with Moyer Jr. and Beard in tow. Kyle inherited the 2nd spot during a lap 13 caution when Moyer Jr. retired with overheating problems. The next six laps found Beard pressuring Dacus for the lead before he finally overtook him on lap 20. Once out front Beard never looked back on his way to his 4th victory of the season.

Even better his win allowed him to clinch his first CCSDS title, even though two events still remain on the season!

"To win this race and the championship in the same night is truly special," an elated Beard said in victory lane. "I can't thank the Upton family and my family enough for their amazing support. I've wanted this championship for several years now, and to finally get it is just an incredible feeling."

Ashley Newman also enjoyed a solid performance as a 6th to 3rd run in his heat race locked him into the 8th starting spot for the 35 lap finale. Newman would go on to race his way to a 6th place finish behind race winner, Beard, Dane Dacus, Clay Fisher, Brandon Smith, and Wendell Wallace.

William Thomas Wins Again in Chevrolet Performance Series Competition

Phenix City, Alabama (09/11/13) - William Thomas took his #A19 Alexander's Industrial Services/JW Miller Land & Timber/GRT Super Late Model into battle over the weekend in a pair of $3,000-to-win, Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series events in the state of Mississippi and came away with yet another win in the new series.

Action opened on Saturday evening at Whynot Motorsports Park as 19 entries took to the 1/3 mile oval. William started his night by registering the 2nd fastest time to lock into the 2nd starting spot for the 50 lap finale alongside Tim Busha. Thomas stalked the leader for the first 48 laps before grabbing the lead, heading down the backstretch on lap 48. Exiting turn four to come to the white flag, Busha clipped an infield tire, which sent him up the track into Thomas. William would slow to collect his entry, which allowed Busha and Ronnie Johnson to slip past. He would go on to finish a disappointing 3rd behind race winner, Busha, and Johnson.

Sunday night found the team seeking redemption from the previous night's bad luck as they invaded Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) for another bout. By the time that the final checkered flag of the evening had dropped William had achieved his goal as he pocketed his seventh win of the season!

Twenty-one entries looked to conquer the 3/8 mile oval, and in qualifications Thomas recorded the fastest lap of the night with a 15.908 second circuit. His qualifying effort locked him into the pole position for the feature with Carlton Freeman starting alongside. As the race went green it was 3rd starting Jeremy Shaw, who bolted to the lead with Thomas in tow. Thomas and Shaw put on a great driving displaying throughout the race as they waged war for the top spot. The duo swapped the lead four times with Thomas finally inching ahead on lap 41 for good. He was followed across the finish line by Shaw, Mathew Turner, Kyle Shaw, and Chase Edge.

"It was a blast racing with Jeremy (Shaw) for the win tonight, and it felt even better to get back to victory lane," noted Thomas. "I feel like we got one taken away from us last night so to bounce back tonight was a definite feeling of redemption."

William continues to lead the series' standings with a 38 marker advantage over Ronnie Johnson. Full results from both races as well as the latest standings are available at www.525SuperSeries.com .

Saturday night, September 14th will find Thomas entering the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series race at Clarksville Speedway (Clarksville, Tennessee), which will post a $3,000 winner's check. For more information on the event please visit www.525SuperSeries.com .

Richards Battles Forward for Hard-Earned Fifth-Place Finish in Prestigious World 100 at Eldora

SHINNSTON, W. Va (September 11, 2013) - Nothing short of a victory in last Saturday night's 43rd annual World 100 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, was going to completely satisfy Josh Richards, but a hard-earned fifth-place finish in dirt Late Model racing's most prestigious event was a decent consolation prize.

While Richards's near decade-long pursuit of a triumph in one of Eldora's two annual DIRTcar UMP-sanctioned crown-jewel races continues, the 25-year-old star from Shinnston, W.Va., showed plenty of resiliency in registering his second top-five finish in seven World 100 A-Main starts since 2005.

"We had a good car," said Richards. "We could've made a few minor tweaks, but we had a really good car. I would've liked to have seen a caution come out sometime late in the race after we got close to the top five (the last of the race's two caution flags flew on lap 56), but we never got it so we had to take what we were given.

"I would've liked to finish a few spots further up, but my guys did a great job and we had a good car at the Dream (Eldora's big event in June) and a good car (at the World) so I feel confident about coming back here next year," he added. "Hopefully we can get one of these next year."

Despite recording quiet 11th-place finishes in 25-lap World 100 Preliminary A-Features on both Thursday and Friday night, Richards entered Saturday's headline program with plenty of confidence. He turned the second-fastest time-trial lap overall out of 113 entrants during the two rounds of qualifying (15.872 seconds on Friday night), stamping him as a favorite for the race's $46,000 top prize.

But with the 36-car inversion giving Richards the sixth starting spot in Saturday's second of six 15-lap heat races, he knew he faced a big challenge just to grab one of the three transfer spots available in each preliminary. He ended up getting involved in an early turn-two tangle during the heat, which cut the right-rear tire on his Valvoline-sponsored Mark Richards Racing Enterprises Rocket No. 1 and forced him to fall back on a fast-time provisional to start 20th in the World 100.

Richards recovered nicely from his heat-race problems, steadily advancing through the field in the World 100 to reach his fifth-place finishing position with just two laps remaining. But he wondered what might have been had he been able to earn a better World 100 starting position by qualifying through a heat race.

"I think we've got qualifying pretty well down here," said Richards. "If we can hit it right, we always seem to be able to qualify in the top five or so. In turn, though, that always puts us behind in the heat races because of the invert. We usually end up starting fifth or sixth, and with so many good cars making it tough to get up there to a transfer spot, we end up having to use a fast-time provisional or run a B-Main and we have to start far back (in the 100).

Richards will return to action on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series this weekend on Friday, Sept. 13, at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill., and Saturday, Sept. 14, at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo. He leads the tour's point standings by 96 points with seven events remaining on the 2013 schedule.
