The Wheatley Chronicles – Volume II, No. 76

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (December 11, 2014) – Robert Ballou emerged from a heated battle for the top spot to come away with the number in ranking in the 2014 edition of the Keizer Wheels Non-Wing 410 Sprint Car Power Rankings.

Winless until June 21, the Rocklin, CA, native closed out strong by racking up 11 wins over the last half of the season including a sweep of Perris Auto Speedway’s Oval Nationals to secure the number one ranking with a 72-point margin over second.

Ballou climbed from a ranking of seventh in 2013 while Dave Darland, last year’s top-ranked driver, settled for second this time around.

Darland, who matched Ballou in the win column with 11 triumphs, took second by 45 markers over Jon Stanbrough with Bryan Clauson and Justin Grant rounding out the top five.

The balance of the top ten included Brady Short, Chase Stockon, USAC champ Brady Bacon (who mixed in a healthy dose of winged Sprint Car racing over the course of the season), Chad Boespflug and Shane Cottle.
