Tribute to Jesse and Daniel "Take It To The Tail Challenge" This Sunday For ASCS Warriors At Double X Speedway

TULSA, Okla. (May 23, 2016) In the Sprint Car racing, the names Jesse Hockett and Daniel McMillin conjure memories of racing, family, and friendship. Their passing hit the Sprint Car world like a hammer, and their loss is still felt to this day.

The Double X Speedway in California, Mo. was Jesse's house, and to prove that, there routinely would be a pot of cash going with the standing bet of dropping to the tail and having to win the A-Feature. Because this was such a defining trait of Jesse, that tradition has been carried on in the annual Tribute to Jesse and Daniel at the Show-Me quarter mile.

As reported on the Warrior Region's Facebook page, the current bet to drop to the tail is just shy of $1,000. The offer goes to drivers who make the redraw on Sunday, May 29. Give up your starting spot, drop to the tail, and go "Hockett Style" through the field for the win. Last year the challenge with the pledge and purse money was a little over $6,000. Jonathan Cornell took the challenge, but came up short of claiming the cash with a fifth place finish.

Anyone wanting to kick in to the pot can do so by contacting ASCS Warrior Director, Larry Hol at ldhol@hotmail.com.

Going into this Sunday at the Double X Speedway, Cornell already made four visits to the Missouri oval with an even split of wins and runner-ups. In ASCS Warrior Region competition, Cornell scored his first victory of 2016 this past Friday night at the Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia to bring his overall total to three triumphs on the season.

With a 107 point advantage, the driver closest in the chase is Evan Martin. Defending Hockett Tribute winner, Austin Alumbaugh, holds third with Cody Baker and Danny Thoman making up the top-five with the Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region presented by Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps. Tyler Thomas, Jay Russell, Tyler Blank, Chris Morgan, and Kyle Bellm round out the top-ten.

In five A-Features this season, four drivers have found Victory Lane with Brandon Hanks finding his way there twice.

Sunday, May 29 at the Double X Speedway gets underway at 7:30 P.M. (CT). Admission is $15 and includes Super Stocks, Hobby Stocks, and 600cc Winged Micros. For more information on the Double X Speedway, log onto http://www.xxspeedway.com or find them on Facebook.

Not only is the weekend busy, but offers fans and teams variety as the three Texas ovals range from a quarter-mile to a half-mile in length, with the banking only getting steeper as the weekend progresses.

Going into the weekend triple-header, 2015 Regional Champion, Channin Tankersley, leads the driver standings by 38 over Ray Allen Kulhanek. In the region's last outing, Tankersley secured his first two wins of the year, moving the Highlands, Texas driver from fourth to first on one shot. Channin also pocketed a $1,000 bonus courtesy of Cooper Racing and Challenger Drilling.

The weekend sweep challenge will still be in play this weekend, but with more races, comes a bigger bonus. Win two out of three, you get $1,000, but sweep the weekend, and a driver can pocket an extra $2,000 to bring the total winner's share on the weekend to a possible $10,000.

Looking further down the point standings finds Tommy Bryant third with Travis Rilat and Dustin Gates completing the top-five. Michael McNeil, Jacob Lucas, Zane Lawrence, J.J. Simmons, and Scottie McDonald make up the top-ten.

Seven nights of racing into the 2016 season, only a pair of drivers have multiple wins with Tankersley and Aaron Reutzel each at two. Andy McElhannon, Josh Baughman, and Brandon Hanks each have one to their name.
