Brad Loyet Tops The Hockett/McMillin Memorial For The First Time

WHEATLAND, Mo. (September 26, 2015) In an absolute display of dominance, Brad Loyet parked his Vacuworx No. 05 in Victory Lane for his first triumph at the Lucas Oil Speedway with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network to become the 18th different winner on the season.

The seventh time Brad Loyet has found Victory Lane since 2012 with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour, the win in the fifth annual Hockett/McMillin Memorial was a special one for the Loyet family.

“Anytime you come to a race like this, it’s a huge deal. Jesse was a friend of mine. He drove one of my cars before, and actually the first winged car I ever raced was Jesse’s car at Lake of the Ozarks Speedway so it’s pretty cool to be here in Victory Lane,” said Loyet of the win. “I’ve tried really hard to get a win in a Sprint Car here. I’ve won in a Midget, but this feel great.”

Finally rolling after two failed starts that saw Scottie McDonald and Brian Brown walk away uninjured after taking hard flips, the No. 95 of Matt Covington got the jump to the lead from the pole position. Taking the runner-up spot on Lap 3 from Tony Bruce, Jr., the Loyet Landscaping No. 05 worked the cushion of the Lucas Oil Speedway to run down the A-Rock Material No. 95 of Matt Covington.

Finding traffic by Lap 8, Loyet jumped on the advantage. Closing fast, Loyet raced to the lead on Lap 10.

Caution working Lap 11, the restart saw Derek Hagar go to work on Matt Covington for second. Coming from eighth, the R.E. Enterprises No. 9jr took the spot on Lap 14.

Giving chase into traffic, all doors were slammed shut as Brad Loyet raced to victory by 6.803 seconds over Derek Hagar.

“We were way too good early on. We had the car at the beginning that we had at the end last night but hats off to my crew for giving me a good racecar to be able to come from basically mid-pack both nights, and be able to contend for the win,” commented Derek when asked about the runner-up finish. “I know how special it is to win this event. I won it last year and Jesse has a special place in all our hearts.”

Runner up both nights with the Lucas Oil ASCS, Derek completed a weekend sweep with the Impact Signs W.A.R. Non-Wing Sprints for Hockett Motorsports

Holding off the charge of Tony Bruce, Jr. the third spot went to Matt Covington, who ended a 22 race drought between podium finishes.

“We’ve had good speed in the car lately, the driver’s just been making a few mistakes. I did it out there too. I just stayed bottom to middle too long and Loyet showed me the way on the top, but the car felt great. It was the same car we had last night and you know, I’ve been on the pole here before, and thought I was going to win and we fell back to fourth on that one, got third on this one, so we’re getting better and that’s all we can ask for.”

Tim Crawley worked middle to top in the closing laps to get to fourth in the Mike Ward Motorsports No. 88x with Danny Lasoski tearing his way through the field from 21st to complete the top five in the Creason Pipeline No. 33L.

Dicing it up with Johnny Herrera and Tony Bruce, Jr. in the closing laps, Ian Madsen was able to grab sixth with Herrera seventh followed by Bruce. Sam Hafertepe, Jr. from 18th was ninth with Wayne Johnson making the most of a 23rd place provisional start to round out the top-ten.

Losing Danny Wood and Ricky Lee Stangl to crashes on Friday night, Matt Close and Danny Lasoski filled in those spots to bring the event count to 53 drivers. Six Heat Races went to Morgan Turpen, Tim Crawley, Johnny Herrera, Brandon Hanks, Jonathan Cornell, and Chance Morton. B-Feature wins went to Seth Bergman, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., and Randy Martin. Provisional starts were used by Wayne Johnson and Jordan Weaver. It was the first time this season either driver has had to use a provisional.

The final outing of the season for the Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region, Jonathan Cornell picked up his fourth series championship.

Hagar Sweeps WAR at Lucas Oil;

Shuman crowned WAR champion

Wheatland, MO(September 26, 2015)-Derek Hagar made it two for two as he took the second night of the Hockett/McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway Saturday night with the Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps WAR Series presented by Next LED.  

Steve Thomas took the lead from his pole starting position as he was followed by Casey Shuman and Wyatt Burks. 
With one lap down, the yellow came out for Danny Smith, who stopped in turn four with front end damage. 

On the restart, Thomas again took command with Shuman, Burks, and Chris Parkinson behind. 
Hagar, who was fifth, would start to make his move forward as he passed Parkinson on lap four. 

For the next five laps, the top five would stay the same and on lap ten Hagar moved past Burks into third. 

By lap thirteen with Thomas still in command, Hagar started putting heavy pressure on Shuman for the second spot.  

A lap later, Hagar got a good run coming off of turn two and moved past Shuman down the backstretch. 

On lap sixteen, Hagar made the winning pass as he swept by Thomas into the top spot. 

Shuman would get by Thomas for second on lap twenty and a lap later, the final yellow would come out for Riley Kreisel, who slid to a stop in turn two with damage to his car. 

On the restart, Hagar took control with Shuman behind.  Burks was able to move past Thomas on lap twenty one with Parkinson moving by into fourth a lap later.  Another driver on the move at this point was Mitchell Moore, who moved into fifth on lap twenty three. 

By the checked flag, Hagar's lead was nearly half a straightaway in his Hockett Racing/Korte Transportation/Al and Diane's Red Onion Lounge #75.  Shuman would finish second in the Hockett Racing/Korte Transportation/Al and Diane's Red Onion Lounge #77 and in the process he took the 2015 WAR Series championship.  Burks was a strong third in the Industrial Maintenace Inc. #11W.  He was followed by Parkinson in the Country Kids Daycare/54th Street Grill and Bar/Ozark Barge and Dock Service #65.  Parkinson also became the inaugural WAR East champion.  Rounding out the top five was Moore in his Kelly Potter owned #51. Thomas was sixth and he was followed by Korey Weyant, Craig Carroll, Brian McClelland, and Gavin Stout. 

Heat race winners for the 46 car field were Thomas, Stout, Smith, McClelland, and Kreisel.  TJ Muths and Chris Morgan won the two B-mains.  Tommy Rockwell and Chris Desselle took hard flips in their respective B-Mains.  Both were uninjured.
