Jonathan Cornell Leads the Way Into Three Nights of ASCS Warrior Action

TULSA, Okla. (August 31, 2015) The Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region gets back to action this Labor Day Weekend with three nights of racing at a pair of Missouri ovals.

Starting Friday, September 4, the ASCS Warrior Region will invade the three-eighths mile Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Mo. along with the Impact Signs W.A.R. Non-Wing Sprint Cars. The fairgrounds oval has not seen Sprint Cars in action since 2001 when Randy Martin picked up the win with the former Winged Outlaw Warriors.

Moving two hours south on Saturday, September 5 kicks off two nights of racing at the Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Mo. With $1,500 on the line to win Saturday night’s feature event, Sunday’s finale will see someone walking away with $4,000.

Leading the way into the three day weekend is Jonathan Cornell who, when Martin was winning at Scotland County, was just getting into Mini Sprints at the age of 12.

“I’m pretty excited about going to a new racetrack. It’s been a while since Sprint Cars have been to Scotland County and we usually adapt to new tracks pretty well,” commented the driver of the Kiowa Line Builders/VKCC Motorsports No. 28.

“We’re really excited about that, and Moberly. We’ve had some success at Moberly, and seem to get around that racetrack pretty good, plus our whole month of August hasn’t been worth a damn so I’m looking forward to getting to a place that we’re familiar with and hopefully we can get back on the winning side of things.”

What should be the ASCS Warrior Region’s seventh and eighth rounds of competition at the ultra-high banked Randolph County Raceway, Cornell has picked up a trio of wins in five podium appearances. The lowest the Starline Brass No. 28 has finished at the four-tenths mile oval in ASCS competition is fourth.

Leading Evan Martin into the weekend by 112 points, there is a great spirit of competition to secure the 2015 title, while also have respect for the Martin racing family.

“Evan’s progressed a lot over the last few years, and he’s been real competitive. I’ve always like racing with him and Randy both. They’ve always been fast, but we’ve always raced each other clean and we have a good relationship with both those guys but I think going into these next few races to wrap up the season, we just have to make sure we’re on top of stuff and not have any major catastrophes. I think we should be alright as long as we are consistent and keep getting top-fives’, top-threes’, and maybe a couple wins to seal the deal.”

Austin Alumbaugh rides third in tour standings with 2015 Double X Speedway Champion, Ricky Lee Stangl fourth. Corey Nelson completes the top five. The top ten rounds out with Josh Fisher, Tyler Thomas, Kevin Ulmer, Jay Russell, and Tyler Blank.

Friday, September 4 at the Scotland County Speedway opens at 6:00 P.M. with Hot Laps getting underway at 7:30 P.M. (CT). Adult tickets are $15 with discounts for students at the front gate. Kids five years of age and younger are free into the grandstands. More information on the Scotland County Speedway can be found on the track’s Facebook page.

Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6 at the Randolph County Raceway will open at 5:00 P.M. with races getting underway at 7:00 P.M. (CT). More information on the Randolph County Raceway can be found at http://www.randolphcountyraceway.com or by calling (660) 833-1RCR (1727).

Kulhanek Takes Slim Advantage Into ASCS Gulf South Championship Weekend

TULSA, Okla. (August 31, 2015) Three drivers separated by 47 points sets the stage for the final showdown for the 2015 season with the Southern Trailer Works ASCS Gulf South Region presented by Griffith Truck and Equipment with a Battleground Speedway double header on Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5 in Highlands, Texas.

Going into Gulf South action third in tour standings on August 21 at the Heart O’ Texas Speedway and August 22 at the Cotton Bowl Speedway, Ray Allen Kulhanek used a pair of podium runs to push past Kevin Ramey and Channin Tankersley for the top spot going into this weekend’s season finale at the Battleground Speedway.

Asked how he felt going into the weekend, Kulhanek replied, “I feel pretty confident about it. I defiantly feel more comfortable being in the points lead going into the last weekend than I do chasing.”

Holding 11 points over Kevin Ramey, the Ft. Worth, Texas driver has matched Kulhanek’s top five and top ten record in 2015, lacking on the pair of wins that has pushed Ray Allen to the top of the leader board. With three of his eight top fives coming at the Battleground Speedway, Ramey will be on point to take the 2015 title.

While Ray Allen pursues his sixth title with the Southern Trailer Works ASCS Gulf South Region presented by Griffith Truck and Equipment, the driver of the Smiley’s / Don Ott No. 21t isn’t letting the points effect his outlook on the weekend.

“Battleground is one of my favorite places to go race on our schedule. I generally run well there and we’re usually top five every time we go, except this year so far,” commented Kulhanek on the season ending venue. “I can’t say I’ve really struggled there, just had a few problems this year but we always seem to pass a lot of cars there, so if we can just make the redraw the first night and lock into Saturday, I feel like the whole weekend will fall into place.”

Looking to defending his 2014 triumph, Channin Tankersley is nowhere close to out on the fight, having earned a runner-up finish in the series last visit to the high-banked oval on July 18. Michael McNeil currently holds fourth with a 16 point advantage over Tommy Bryant. Jacob Lucas runs sixth with Zane Lawrence, John Pate, Larry Howery, and Caleb Martin making the top-ten.

As it’s gone all season, a $1,000 bonus, thanks to Challenge Drilling, Griffith Truck and Equipment, and Cooper Motorsports, is up for grabs to any driver who can sweep the weekend. Blake Hahn and Seth Bergman have each been able to collect the bonus.

The 14th annual Gulf South Championship Weekend at the Battleground Speedway will see both nights opening at 6:00 P.M. with races getting underway at 8:00 P.M. (CT). Friday, September 4 will also feature Eco Stocks, Limited Modifieds, and Mod Lites.

Saturday, September 5 will see Pure Stocks, Stock Cars, Dwarf Cars, and Mod Lites filling out the night’s card. More information on the Battleground Speedway can be found online at http://www.battleground-speedway.com or by calling (832) 614-0042.
