ASCS Regional Showdown: Gulf South and Lone Star

Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (August 18, 2013) A pair of nights, for all the bragging rights of Texas, that’s what is on the card as the Griffith Truck and Equipment Gulf South and Smiley’s Racing Products Lone Star Regions square off at the Heart O’ Texas Speedway on Waco on Friday, August 23 then the Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Saturday, August 24 in Mesquite.

Splitting the regional showdown in 2012, Tommy Bryant emerged victorious at the Heart O’ Texas for the Gulf South Region, while John Carney II garnered his first ASCS Regional triumph for the Lone Star Region the following night at the Devil’s Bowl.

With both regions going into the final handful of events for 2013, the Griffith Truck and Equipment is down to only four nights, including this weekend’s pairing with the Lone Star Region who has eight dates left on the docket with the addition of Labor Day Weekend events in Abilene on August 31 and Lubbock on September 1.

In terms of the point’s battle, both regions are poised to go down to the wire. Ray Allen Kulhanek holds a slim 14 point advantage over Aaron Reutzel in the Gulf South with Matt Covington only 91 markers ahead of Patrick Stasa. The weekend pairing could prove interesting on the point’s battle as combined regions signal split points with drivers removed from the finishing order and placed in order based on their region; a literal race within a race.

Friday night at the Heart O’ Texas gets underway at 8:00 P.M. with gates opening at 6:00 P.M. Support classes will include Modifieds, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, Street Stocks, Bombers, Mini Stocks, and Twisters.
