ASCS Gulf South heads for Beaumont and Baytown

(June 18, 2013) Returning to competition for a double dip weekend around the Houston area, the Griffith Truck and Equipment Gulf South Region makes its fourth trip to the Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas on Friday, June 21 for the John Bankston Memorial Race for the Cure to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Saturday, June 22 will see the Gulf South arm of the ASCS Nation in Baytown, Texas for the season’s second visit to the Royal Purple Raceway for the Texas Outlaw Fireworks ASCS Gulf South Sprint Car Nationals presented by Community Toyota.

Ray Allen Kulhanek grabbed the 2013 season opening victory at the Golden Triangle Raceway Park over a field of 30 and hasn’t visited victory lane since then. Nevertheless, Kulhanek continues to maintain a lead of 58 over Aaron Reutzel with eight top fives’ and 10 top tens’. The Conroe, Texas driver’s only finish outside the top ten came at the Heart O’ Texas Speedway on June 7.

Reutzel, who has four victories including the series last outing at the Texas Thunder Speedway on June 8, has amassed seven top fives’ and eight top tens’ in 11 Gulf South dates.

Channin Tankersley, who stood victorious at the Royal Purple Raceway on April 6, holds third 115 markers back from Kulhanek with Tommy Bryant and Beau Smith making up the top five in driver standings.
Friday night at the Golden Triangle Raceway Park will include the Limited Modifieds, Modlite Dwarf Cars, Street Stocks, and Hobby Stocks. Races are scheduled to beging at 8:00 P.M. (CDT). Gates open at 4:00 P.M. For more information log onto http://www.gtrpbmt.com or call (409) 752-7200.

Saturday at the Royal Purple Raceway kicks off at 6:30 P.M. (CDT). According to a press release from the Royal Purple Raceway, Dirt Track Manager, Chris Teter explained, “This night is about honoring patriotism and celebrating our freedom.”

Track officials also announced that they will host a “Future Soldiers of America” swearing in ceremony during pre-race activities. The Saturday card includes USRA Modifieds and Limited Modifieds. The 2013 season marks the twenty-second year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, which brings the best of Sprint Car racing to dozens of different tracks throughout the nation and into Canada.
