Gulf South Region doubles up this weekend

(June 3, 2013) The Griffith Truck and Equipment Gulf South Region returns to a pair of quarter-mile ovals after a weekend break for their second appearance of the 2013 season at the Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas on Friday, June 7 and only appearance of the season at the Texas Thunder Speedway in Killeen, Texas on Saturday, June 8.

Presented by Life Partners, Inc. the ninth annual Gordon Woolley Classic at the Heart O’ Texas Speedway is the series second of three scheduled nights for 2013 at the Waco oval.

The 2012 edition saw Kevin Ramey pick up his fifth career ASCS Regional win at the Heart O’ Texas Speedway; a track that has hosted regional events since 2004. Claude Estes topped the Gulf South Region’s inaugural visit on June 18, 2004. Friday night’s main event will feature an added $500 bonus to the winner, bringing the top prize to $2,500.

Texas Thunder Speedway in Killeen, Texas saw a pair of Alvin, Texas drivers atop the leaderboard in 2012 as Michael McNeil and Travis Elliot crossed ahead of Channin Tankersley in the Gulf South Region’s inaugural visit.

Unfortunate to report, the Saturday date will be the final appearance for the Gulf South Region at the Texas Thunder Speedway according to promoter David Goode who will be closing the track after Aug. 31 due to the continued building around the property. A $2,000 check awaits the winner of Saturday’s A-Feature.
Going into the weekend doubleheader, Ray Allen Kulhanek continues to ride atop the Griffith Truck and Equipment Gulf South Regional standings by 78 over Aaron Reutzel. Channin Tankersley, Tommy Bryant and Beau Smith make up the top five in.

Friday, June 7 at the Heart O’ Texas Speedway will feature Modifieds, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, Street Stocks, Bombers, Jr. Mini Stocks, and Twisters in addition to the Griffith Truck and Equipment Gulf South Region. Gates will open at 6:00 P.M. (CDT) with races beginning at 8:00 P.M.

Saturday, June 8 at the Texas Thunder Speedway feature card includes Modifieds, Sport Mods, Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks, Street Stocks, Texas Twisters, and Outlaw Twisters. Gates on Saturday will open at 6:00 P.M. (CDT) with races getting underway at 8:00 P.M.

The 2013 season marks the twenty-second year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, which brings the best of Sprint Car racing to dozens of different tracks throughout the nation and into Canada. Anchored by the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series, ASCS also consists of nine different Regions throughout the nation.
