Southwest Region ready for Tucson return

Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (April 29, 2013) Just over a month since their last visit to the Tucson International Raceway, the Hose Advantage Store Southwest Region plans it’s return on Saturday, May 4 for the inaugural Fight for Air Race to benefit the American Lung Association and Kindred Hospital in Tucson.

Races will be preceded by a car show on Friday, May 3 at the Jalopy’s Pizza located at the Tucson International Raceway from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.

Continually adding new clay to the three-eighths mile oval, the regions last outing put the reworked surface to the test with Alamogordo, N.M. shoe Lorne Wofford charging from eighth to win by nearly a straight-a-way over defending series champion, and current points leader Rick Ziehl.

With fresh A.S.I. power under the hood for this Saturday, Wofford’s hoping for a track similar to what he found on his April 6 visit. “It puts it more in the driver’s hands” commented Wofford of the dryer surface. “It was a driver’s track, and that really played to our advantage.”

The Saturday special will include the X-Mods, Mod Lites, Dwarf Cars, and Hornets along with the Hose Advantage Store Southwest Regional Sprint Cars with racing scheduled to begin at 6:30 P.M. (MT).
