John Carney II Tops Exciting ASCS Red River/Warrior Region Showdown at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (April 23, 2016) The first showdown of the season between the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley's Racing Products and the Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region presented by Impact Signs was a thriller as El Paso, Texas shoe John Carney II walked away with the night's $2,000 score at the Springfield Raceway.

Being a co-sanctioned event, the win counts as Carney's first with the ASCS Warrior Region, and second in ASCS Red River competition.

Gridding the John James Racing No. 4j fifth, Caney jumped top shelf on the start, following sixth starting Hahn to the front of the field. Chasing down early race leader, Mitchell Moore, Hahn raced to the lead on Lap 7 as the leaders found the tail of the field.

Trying to keep pace with the CSR Garage No. 52, Carney would have to let traffic work to his advantage in order to run down Blake Hahn. Working past the race's halfway point, Hahn found himself mired behind slower cars. Stuck on the bottom of the Springfield Raceway, the rolling roadblock was just what Carney needed.

With Hahn's advantage dwindling, Carney's run for the lead came as the field worked to the final five laps. Working Lap 21, Carney stuck the No. 4j to the top and to the lead. Searching the track for lines to run, Hahn found rubber. Going three wide though traffic for the lead, Carney kept just enough momentum to hold off the Lucas Oil No. 52.

Caution the final lap, Hahn's night nearly ended as Chance Morton spun directing in front of the leaders. On the brakes, Hahn did catch the Right Rear of the No. 7m, but was able to continue rolling. Trying for the lead on the restart, Carney would not be denied his sixth win of the 2016 season in his first trip to the Springfield oval.

Challenged off the final turn by Jonathan Cornell for the runner-up spot, Hahn was able to hold the position for his second podium finish of the weekend. Jonathan Cornell, who was also the night's Tiger Towing High Point Driver of the Night, completed the night's podium. Brandon Hanks came from seventh to fourth with Mitchell Moore rounding out the top-five.

Cody Baker was sixth with Mickey Walker seventh from 11th. Jason McDougal crossed eighth with Jay Russell and Steven Russell making up the top-ten.

The Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region presented by Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps sees action again on Friday, April 29 at the Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Mo. The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley's Racing Products joins up with the Warrior Region on Saturday, May 7 at Lucas Oil Speedway.
