Jared Landers Health Update

Batesville, Arkansas (09/14/16) – After being injured in a wild wreck in mid-July, Jared Landers had hoped to return to the driver’s seat this week during the 13th annual Lucas Oil Knoxville Late Model Nationals. Unfortunately, the pilot of the Crop Production Services #777 Mark Martin Automotive/ Sweet Bloomquist/ Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model will have to wait a few more weeks before he gets to race again.

“I went to the doctor this week, and he gave me good news and bad news,” said the 34-year-old, Landers. “He told me that the carotid artery is definitely healing, but it’s just healing a little slower than originally projected. As a result, he told me to be safe that I needed to wait and undergo more tests in two weeks to determine if I’m ready to race again or not.”

Jared suffered a torn carotid artery in his neck in a wild flip at Tri City Speedway (Granite City, Illinois) on July 15. The extent of the injury wasn’t discovered until mid-August, and he’s been out of action ever since.

“It stinks to have to wait a little longer until I get to race again, but clearly I don’t want to rush this at all,” said Landers. “I have my whole life still to race, but right now I want to look out for what’s in the best interest of my family and myself.”

He concludes by saying, “I just want to thank all of my sponsors and my fans for their great support during this really trying time. Their backing and words of encouragement have helped me more than they’ll ever know. When I do get back on the track again, I honestly believe that my focus and my determination will be stronger than it’s ever been.”

Hagar Drives to Two Podium Finishes at Riverside International Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Sept. 14, 2016) - Derek Hagar posted a pair of podium finishes last Saturday at Riverside International Speedway, where he did double duty by driving his own 360ci winged sprint car and piloting a 305ci sprint car for Karen and Raymond Slavings.

"I'm pretty happy with it," Hagar said. "We had a winning car in the 360 deal. It was a driver error trying to get around a lapped car that cost us. We can't hang our head about it."

Hagar opened the night by charging from fourth to win a 360 heat race. That lined him up on the pole for the 20-lap main event.

"I led about 14 laps," he said. "The track was around the bottom. I caught a lapped car at the wrong time. I tried to roll the middle and I got hung in the middle off the corner and I got passed. We did a slide job on (Tim Crawley) in turn three and he turned under me and got me back. I lost so much momentum doing the slide job."

Hagar finished second in the main event.

Hagar started the 305 main event on the outside of the third row after recording a runner-up result in a heat race.

"I ran fifth for a little while," he said. "We were fighting an issue with it not wanting to come off the corner very well. Once the track slicked off it helped that situation. I was able to make some moves and get around a couple of cars and come out with a third-place finish."

Hagar's third-place result gives him 29 top fives this season.

He will return to action this Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for the Ralph Henson Memorial.

QUICK RESULTS -

Sept. 10 - Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. (360 sprint car) - Heat race: 1 (4); Feature: 2 (1).

Hanks Takes Top Five at Texas Motor Speedway to Add to ASCS Red River Points Lead

Inside Line Promotions - FORT WORTH, Texas (Sept. 14, 2016) - Brandon Hanks is one step closer to his first career sprint car championship.

Hanks produced a top-five finish last Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway to add to his lead in the ASCS Red River Region championship standings. He now owns a 183-point advantage with only three races remaining.

"We're inching closer," he said. "We still are going into each race with the same mindset."

Hanks kicked off the race by charging from fourth to win a heat race. That locked him in the feature redraw, where he pulled the highest number - eight - to start the feature on the outside of the fourth row.

"The car was really good, but my drawing skills got us behind the eight ball right off the bat," he said. "Also, I should have made some better decisions early in the race. We had a really fast car. We passed Wayne Johnson and some good cars. We were catching Blake (Hahn) and lapped traffic came into play. There were three to five lapped cars between me and Blake for fourth with John Carney II right in front of him and then we had a late caution. That hurt me a lot as far as getting to them. I ran out of time."

Hanks maneuvered to a fifth-place finish, which marked his 12th top five of the season.

On the second night of the three-day mega event, Earl would qualify 24th out of 108 cars and again win his heat race to start 9th in the feature event. EPJ would immediately advance through the field and into the top 5 by lap 10. Over the next 15 laps EPJ and four other drivers would put on an exciting battle for the lead until a caution with 2 laps to go would wave. Tankersley Closes ASCS Gulf South Championship With Hard Charge to Podium Finish

Inside Line Promotions - BEAUMONT, Texas (Sept. 14, 2016) - Channin Tankersley captured his second ASCS Gulf South Region championship in the past three years last Saturday during the region's final race of the season.

"It's pretty big," he said. "That just shows that we can consistently run up front and that we can put a whole season together. Probably my biggest downfall when I first started was I was always really fast, but I wasn't consistent. Over the past few years we've got rid of the crashing part and have been really consistent."

However, Saturday's show didn't start as well as Tankersley hoped.

"They had a red on Lap 1 of the heat race," he said. "The car was running great. I shut it off for the red and it wouldn't refire when we tried to restart. We went to the work area and put a new MSD box on it. They restarted the race and we didn't make it back out. It's only about the second time it's happened in my racing career."

That lined Tankersley up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.

"That set us back in the A Main," he said. "With the track as fast as it was it was tough to move forward. The track was the fastest I've seen that place in a long time. It was right up on the curb. I'd get someone running through the middle and then we'd get in traffic and I'd get another one. It was picking one off here and there. We did all we could to run them down. We just ran out of time."

Tankersley maneuvered from 12th to earn a third-place result, which was his 11th top five of the season. It also netted the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

QUICK RESULTS -

Sept. 10 - Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas - Heat race: DNF (6); Feature: 3 (12).
