The 2007 racing season is sure to be an exciting and entertaining experience for fans and race teams. Columbus Speedway has become a leading entertainment venue in the Golden Triangle region. Veteran Mississippi racer Johnny Stokes is in his seventh year of leadership at the popular facility and Columbus Speedway has become one of the premier short tracks in America under his guidance.
The fast and high banked 3/10’s mile red clay oval is known for its extremely intense action as drivers run from top to bottom riding the ragged edge as they flirt with the wall “arching and sparking” charging on the high side in daring cushion blasting fashion in “The Zone” or digging down low on the bottom groove thrilling fans with every move. Action is the attraction as all classes at Columbus Speedway provide thrilling battles as the Weekly Racing Series events at Columbus Speedway provide lots of excitement and great family fun.
The Master of Mayhem, announcer extraordinaire Ross Tingle provides exciting play by play action as Ross is one of the best in the business and perpetuates the fun and electrified atmosphere evident at Columbus Speedway. Fans and participants can also listen to the PA broadcast on the track’s local FM station 88.5.
Our Weekly Racing Series programs offer close competition and excitement all season long. Local classes include the Commercial Dispatch Super Late Models that are part of the Rebel Challenge Weekly Racing Series plus the Late Model Stocks, Open Wheel Modifieds, Stormpay.com Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks. The Stars and Cars are in action most Saturday nights along with a few Friday night specials this season at Columbus Speedway. Drivers wishing to take on the challenge of being recognized as the best and take on the top competition make Columbus Speedway their home. A full spectrum of racing drama will explode into action every Saturday night. Columbus Speedway is truly the “Baddest Bullring in the South.”
Columbus Speedway continues to offer an expanded schedule of Championship events during the 2007 racing season, including increased exposure and attention on highly potent local divisions. There will be numerous Championship events for all the ultra competitive Columbus Speedway “Heavy Metal” divisions. The Championships such as the crowd pleasing Street Stock “Street Survivors” 20, various Open Wheel Modifieds specials, and the Mini Stock Summer Sizzler are only a sampling of what is in store for the fans and drivers.
Many exciting special events are scheduled for the 2007 season. Season Opening night is March 3rd with the running of the annual “Golden Triangle Championship.” An early season Super Late Model special event will take place with the running of the 6th Annual Rebel Challenge offering $12,000 possible to win on March 9th and 10th. Action gets underway on Friday night with a $2,000 to win Super Late Model Championship plus the $1,200 to RCWRS Invitational and then culminates with a $10,000 to win show on Saturday night March 10th. The will also be Rebel Championships for the Modifieds, Late Model Stocks, and Street Stocks.
The month of March will climax as the Dirt Motorsports World of Outlaws Late Model Series makes its second ever appearance at Columbus Speedway on March 24th with the huge $10,000 to win “Bullring Brawl.”
Other headline events for the 2007 season will be a multitude of Super Late Model Special events plus the O’Reilly USCS Winged Outlaw Sprint Cars in town on June 2nd and a late season visit in November. Great events on the schedule also include the Super Late Model Firecracker 40 on June 30th as part of the Firecracker 6 Crown Southern Speedweek as Columbus Speedway tags up with Duck River Speedway, Moulton Speedway, North Alabama Speedway, Magnolia Motor Speedway, and Talladega Short Track for a 4th of July weekend blowout like no other.
Other major events include the traditional $5,000 To Win 15th Annual James King Memorial on April 14th sanctioned by the Southern Regional Racing Series and the most prestigious Super Late Model race in Mississippi, The $25,007 to win Magnolia State 100 and Championships on September 28th and 29th which saw Indiana’s Don O’Neal top a star studded Super Late Model field on hand in 2006.
Columbus Speedway is bringing to the area fans another BIG one on July 14th as the $10,000 to win James Nickoles Memorial which will see the Lucas Oil Late Model Series be unleashed in what is sure to be another memorable event that will also be taped for broadcast on SPEED TV.
August will bring one of the most special nights of the year at Columbus Speedway, the 8th Annual 59 lap $5,000 to win and $400 to start, John L Cliett Tribute for Super Late Models on Saturday night August 4th. The annual event is in memory of one of the greatest friends Mississippi dirt racing has ever had, “The One and Only” John L. Cliett and will be run during a second annual meeting between rival sanctions as both the Southern All Stars and SUPR series will go toe to toe at the Bullring.
The 18th Annual Magnolia State 100 will highlight the September calendar on the 28th and 29th with the running of the annual event with $25,007 going to winner of the biggest race in Mississippi.
Columbus Speedway will conclude the 2007 season with the new tradition of the Possum Town Grand Prix held Thanksgiving weekend on November 23rd and 24th which features Championships in all divisions. Plus Super Late Models will have over $7,000 possible to win plus the addition of the Stormpay.com series for the season finale.
