O’Reilly MSRA Kicks Off 2008 This Saturday at I-30 Speedway
Beebe, AR (3/31/08) – The O'Reilly MSRA Super Late Model Series will kick off the 2008 season this Saturday, April 5th at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Arkansas with a $2,000 to Win/ $400 to Start event.
The 2008 season will mark the sophomore season for the Arkansas-based Super Late Model tour. In 2007 many of the region’s top competitors competed with the tour as it traversed Arkansas. In 2008, many of the same drivers will be throwing their hats into the ring for various events with the tour.
Leading the way for 2008, will be Joey Mack from Benton, Missouri, who was the 2007 O’Reilly MSRA Champion. Despite still being on the recovery from an off-season surgery, Mack is set to kick off his season in his #97 GRT By Frye/Kuntz & Co. Super Late Model this Saturday at I-30 Speedway.
Walnut Ridge, Arkansas’ driver, Jeff Floyd, who finished second in the 2007 O’Reilly MSRA points, is also regrouped and ready for the new season. The “Fireball” will be piloting his #F1 GRT/Kuntz & Co. entry into battle this weekend.
Dusty Johnston from Yellville, Arkansas, set the tour on fire in 2008 by winning four feature events and claiming four pole awards. Johnston finished 3rd in the final point standings in 2007, and has #16 GRT By Frye/Kuntz & Co. Super Late Model ready for battle.
The 2007 O’Reilly MSRA Rookie of the Year, Billy Moyer Jr., from Batesville Arkansas is embarking on his 3rd year of Super Late Model racing in 2008 behind the wheel of his #21jr Victory Circle M1 Chassis By Moyer/Runion Racing Engine entry. Moyer Jr. finished 4th in the 2007 O’Reilly MSRA points in 2007 and is back for more in 2008.
Billy Peden Jr. from Marion, Arkansas was a mainstay on the tour in 2007 and finished 6th in the final 2007 O’Reilly MSRA point standings. Peden Jr. will be at I-30 Speedway this Saturday to kick off the 2008 season driving his #121 GRT/RPM Racing Engine entry.
The 2007 O’Reilly MSRA Midsouth Dirt Track Champion event winner, Kyle Beard, from Trumann, Arkansas has also filed an entry for this weekend in his #86 GRT By Frye/Samuels Performance Racing Engine Super Late Model. Beard finished 8th in the 2007 O’Reilly MSRA point standings.
H&K Motorsports has announced its intent to compete for the 2008 O’Reilly MSRA title, and they will be fielding cars for two drivers. Dewaine Hottinger from Russellville, Arkansas will be piloting his #65 GRT By Frye chassis into battle this weekend, and Jon Kirby from Russellville, Arkansas will be behind the wheel of his #11 GRT by Frye chassis.
A new face on the tour in 2008 will be “The Big Boss” Ross Camponovo from Clarksdale, Mississippi, who has voiced his intent as a possible O’Reilly MSRA Rookie of the Year candidate.
A couple of champions from other tours will be looking to invade this weekend as Jon Mitchell from Texarkana, Texas, who was the 2007 AMP Late Model Series Champion, will be on hand behind the wheel of his #5 GRT By Catman/Hatfield Racing Engine Super Late Model. 2007 MARS Late Model Series Champion, Bill Frye, has also indicated that he will be in action behind the wheel of his #66 GRT By Frye/Kuntz & Co. Super Late Model.
A strong contingent of local drivers plus a few surprises can be expected in addition to all of the drivers mentioned above.
I-30 Speedway is a ¼ mile, red clay oval located in Little Rock, Arkansas. Gates open at 5:00 and races start at 7:30. Adult admission $12 and kids 6 - 12 are only $2 when accompanied by an adult.
