Columbus, MS - "The Baddest Bullring in the South" returned to weekly Summer Racing Series action Saturday night, June 16 with "West Alabama Night at the Races" providing a discount on teh grandstand side for Alabama residents. Race fans would be treated to a very competitive show at the high-banked red clay oval with the track masterfully groomed for the 91 race teams in attendance.

Former track champ Shawn Edwards would set fast time in Commercial Dispatch Rebel Challenge Super Late Model qualifying, turning in a 14.44-second lap, but it would be Coldwater, MS driver Dean Carpenter taking the feature race checkered flag in his Jay Dickens-powered #51 machine. The win - well-earned with fierce three-wide competition up front - would be Carpenter's first career vicotry at the Bullring. Rick Rickman, who competed at the Eldora Dream the previous weekend, took runner-up honors, while Jim McDuffie piloted his machine from dead last on the 18-car grid to take home third place. Jason Sanderford and Roger Shirley completed the top five over Edwards, Eddie Rickman, Kurt Radojcsics, Mark Barnett, and Bradley Price.

Open-Wheel Modified feature race honors went to Blake Koenigsberger. The top five positions at the finish were filled by Jeremy Shaw, Brian Rickman, Chris Collums, and Lee Ray. Time Parker, Jay Burchfield, Bill Sudduth, Todd Gray, and Matt Price rounded out the top ten in the 21-car field.

Mike Ellis took the Stormpay.com Crate Late Model feature win followed by Chris Reed and Jamie Pickard. The Late Model Stock win fell to Jason Downs when apparent winner Jackson McCool failed to pass technical inspection. Jody Guest and Ray Paul followed Downs across the line to finish in the top three.

Marvin Beard took his third consecutive Street Stock win over 29 competitors after starting on the rear of his heat due to winning the past two events. Beard, who will be the subject of a bounty next weekend, would be followed across the line by Trey Bright and Jeremy Robertson. Steve Mitchell took the Mini Stock win over Micheal Pendley and Scott Gable.

Columbus Speedway will continue the 2007 Summer Racing Series next Saturday night June 23rd with a Full Racing Program. The show includes the Rebel Challenge Weekly Racing Series Super Late Models and all local divisions in action. Local divisions include Late Model Stock, Open Wheel Modifieds, Stormpay Late Models, Street Stocks, and Mini Stocks.

The Mini Stock division will be the spotlight division on the evening on June 23rd as they compete in their “Summer Sizzler 20” Championship. The 20-lap main event will pay $400 to win and $40 to start. Mini Stocks will time trial Pole Qualifying, main event early in the program, driver intros, and post race interviews.

Also in action will be the Super Late Models with another RCWRS 20-lap main event that pays $125 to start. The event will serve as a good time to test and tune for the upcoming Firecracker 40 in June 30th as part of the 6 Crown Southern Speedweek and also for the Lucas Oil Series James Nickoles Memorial SPEED TV event coming up July 14th.

Grandstand gates open at 5pm with action at 7:30pm. Please remember lawn chairs and coolers are welcome with the exception of no glass containers.
