Herndon Wins 4-Crown Event. Boland Wins SLM at Columbus Speedway.

Columbus, MS - The beast has awakened.

Saturday night, The Baddest Bullring in the South, Columbus Speedway kicked off the 2007 Summer Weekly Racing Series while also hosting round 2 of the annual Modified 4-Crown Championship series. An excellent 126 race teams filled the pits including 46 Modified 4-Crown competitors and a talent-packed Super Late Model field.

TJ Herndon of Atwood, TN would set fast time in the Open-Wheel Modified division over the field of 46 entries, which competed Saturday night for a $1,000 winner's share. Herndon would start fourth on the grid following a pill draw but when the caution-free 20-lapper ended, it would be Herndon taking the checkered flag. Jason Brock would claim second place over Ashely Newman, Blake Koenigsberger, and Shaw. Also earning top-ten honors would be Chris Moore, Ben Reed, Brandon Poppenheimer, Chad Winkles, and Mike Paillou.

Rick Rickman would come out on top of the 17-car Commercial Dispatch Super Late Model field in qualifying with a 14.35-second lap, earning a $100 bonus from Deep South Racing Parts in Kilmichael, MS. Mike Boland, no stranger to victory lane at The Bullring, would end up with the feature win followed by Dane Dacus. Rickman earned third place honors ahead of Anthony Rushing and 11th-starting Dean Carpenter, while Shawn Edwards, Eddie Rickman, last place-starting Kurt Radojcsics, Roger Shirley, and Jason Sanderford rounded out the top 10. Super Late Models share the bill next weekend at Columbus Speedway alongside the USCS Winged Outlaw Spinters for at least $1,000 to win and $125 to start.

Jamie Pickard would manage his second career victory in the Stormpay.com Crate Late Model feature with 15 cars on hand, followed by Randy Harmon, Bryant Milam, Darrell Guess, and TK King. Completing the top ten would be Corey Doyle, Mark Stokes, Carson Wallace, Reed Long, and Chris Turley. In a rare appearance on his own race track, Dr. Dirt himself Johnny Stokes (who also raced in the Modified event) took the Late Model Stock win in a borrowed car over Eric Cooley, Terry King, Jamey Bouchillon, and Tim Davis.

Marvin Beard would best a whopping 27-car Street Stock field in the division main event with a win over Mike Barton, Luke Riddle, Danny Gable, and Stan Lee. Michael Pendley took the Mini Stock win followed by Bo Minor, Mike Minor, Scott Gable, and Nick Deese in the top five.

The Columbus Speedway Summer Weekly Racing Series continues next week. Coming up next Saturday night June 2nd at “The Baddest Bullring in the South” Columbus Speedway; the 9th annual USCS Columbus Clash.
